The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is in spring or late summer, when temperatures are pleasant and humidity levels are low. In July and August the climate is hot and humid, while the area is busy with tourists. Hotels in the Amalfi Coast tend to close for the winter, starting in October until they reopen in late March or April.
Perched high on a cliff top amidst scented lemon and orange groves, the prestigious family-run Hotel Santa Caterina enjoys an unprecedented position on the Amalfi Coast, with breathtaking views out to the Mediterranean sea.
Originally built in 1880, the Hotel Santa Caterina has an impressive history, which is reflected throughout the property. The hotel first opened with 6 rooms in 1904, and over the years has been expanded by the family who own it. It now boasts 66 rooms and suites, all of which have a classic, Italian design with quintessentially Mediterranean architecture.

The Restaurant Santa Caterina regularly hosts 'guest chefs', who bring people in from far and wide to experience their culinary delights. The Restaurant Al Mare, is open from May to October and is a fantastic place to people watch and take in the panoramic views of the Mediterranean. Perhaps the most popular part of the hotel is its beach club. Located next to the restaurant and carved into the rock, this secluded delight is exclusively for the use of the hotel guests. There is a heated sea water pool, sun loungers, umbrellas and attendants to ensure you are fully hydrated while you soak up the rays.
The Hotel Santa Caterina has 7 different styles of room. They have all been decorated in a uniquely Italian way and feature vaulted ceilings, hand painted ceramics and locally crafted wrought iron.

The Hotel Santa Caterina has two restaurants which offer a range of Mediterranean inspired dishes.
The Ristorante Santa Caterina has a menu which features ricotta and salami stuffed zucchini flowers, grilled lobster and squid with sautéed spinach and a mixed Mediterranean fish grill with seasonal vegetables. There are also more traditional options such as Chateaubriand, chicken with a red onion and pepper coulis and herb crusted lamb chops.
The Ristorante Al Mare is located on the terrace, next to the beach club. The cuisine here includes a terrine of John Dory with steamed shrimps and citrus aoili, lobster salad, a range of freshly made pasta dishes and traditional Italian pizza.
The Bar La Terrazza is the perfect place to congregate with friends and family for an apperitif before your evening meal. It is also open throughout the day for light snacks or just to have a cool drink and absorb the panoramic views.
One of the main attractions of this costal hotel is the private beach club that is perched above the Mediterranean. From April to October it is reserved exclusively for use by the hotel guests and the attendants provide loungers, deck charis and umbrellas.
There is also the fantastic spa and wellness area, which offers a variety of massages and treatments. Their signature massage is known as the 'Amalfi Gold' and the essential oils used are locally sourced from plants and flowers around the region.
