This unique hotel is a bucket list experience for anyone who loves the mountains and wants a new ski hotel experience. This historic refuge was built in the 19th Century for mountaineers to explore the Glacier and ice cave and has been transformed into a luxury base for exploring the mountains whilst enjoying amazing mountain food and total peace and quiet!

Luxury, yes for a mountain refuge, but the hotel is basic with the rooms being simple in style and without any spa facilities. The restaurant however that is a treat! The wine list is superb, and the menu is full of tasty mountain food, such as raclette and fondue, perfect after a big day hiking!

With amazing panoramic views, the refuge is the perfect base for hiking, or skiing the glacier with a guide and can only be reached from the train which stops at 6pm so you have the mountain to yourself on the evening. The ice grotto (Mer de Glace) is open from 10am to go in and you reach this via cable car, a must do during your visit. One or two nights is perfect here and works well combined with Chamonix or Megeve.
