Average time to visit

Stockholm is a year round destination but is at its best in spring, summer and December. From May to September temperatures are warm, early twenties but in the height of summer can reach up to 30 degrees and the sun doesn't set until around 10:30pm, rising at around 3:00am so you can really pack a lot in! During the winter temperatures do get cold but it is a great place to go for a pre-Christmas getaway.

Description

Hotel Skeppsholmen is a true urban oasis in the heart of Stockholm. Located on the waterfront of Skeppsholmen island surrounded by leafy trees and well-kept gardens you would never know you're just a stones throw from the city center and the Old Town.

Hotel Skeppsholmen dates back to 1699 when it was built in order to house the Royal Marines. The building exchanged hands many times, each time being developed for various different uses such as a hospice, a storage facility for the Navy, residential apartments for the Navy and their families and lastly Navy offices.

During its extensive renovation by Swedish architects Claesson Koivisto Rune many of the original constructions and details were uncovered and restored adding a unique historical feel to the elegant and modern design of the hotel. The clean, neutral color scheme and modern Swedish décor is beautifully complimented by the original 17th century wooden floors and staircases.

The 78 rooms and suites have been decorated in a classically Swedish manner. They are spacious and minimalist with light colors, wooden floors and all have beautiful sea or garden views. The relaxed restaurant has a very inviting atmosphere with warm lighting, comfortable seating and delicious locally produced traditional Swedish fare with a modern twist.

Hotel Skeppsholmen is neighbored by the Museum of Modern Art, the Swedish Museum of Architecture, and the remarkable Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities and if you walk just a little further afield across the bridge you'll find yourselves on Kungsträdgården Stockholm's absolute city center.

Skeppsholmen is a super little hotel on a small islet just over the bridge from the center of Stockholm. Our room on the third floor was comfortable and spacious yet cosy. The breakfast was by far the best we had during our stay in Sweden. Soardough was served straight from the bakers oven, coffee was from a proper barista machine and for us tea drinkers, a massive array of variety which is always welcomed! Dinner in the hotel was fantastic. The restaurant has a relaxed Skandi chique vibe, as does the rest of the hotel and the food was simply superb. This is a fantastic  historical property with gorgeous views onto the water, striking distance to the city center yet far away enough to be a peaceful retreat after a busy days exploring.

I really enjoyed our stay at Skelpsholmen. The hotel is historic and it definitely has a sense of place and it does not feel as big as the 70+ rooms. The staff are welcoming and warm and the simple scandi style of the hotel is very soothing. The hotel has won design awards and it is one of the most ecofriendly hotels in the region. We stayed in a superior room and I definitely recommend booking the superior rooms and above and the lower category rooms are quite small. The hotel was filled with a cross section of business travelers and tourists from the USA and Europe and I think that may switch to all leisure travelers in the summer. The island location gives the hotel a laid back feeling and it feels like an oasis in the city. The museums and old Stockholm are within walking distance so although this hotel may not be as central as some, it is perfect for those that like a peaceful location and access to the arts. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast here and both were spectacular. The food was not fussy but it definitely felt elevated; both meals were delicious. The hotel has a tennis court and a small gym for those wanting to keep fit. I would recommend this hotel to couples and families interested in a stay in Stockholm.

Hotel Skeppsholmen is a great modern style hotel in a building with some history behind it, giving in a little extra charm. It used to be a military barracks and then a hospice before being made in to a hotel. The staff are so helpful and friendly and you instantly feel at home.

Walking up to this 17th century building with the snow whirling around you, I was transported to a different time. Once inside however the cosy, classic Scandinavian dcor felt fresh and modern and made for a very comfortable base. I particularly liked their eco credentials which encouraged you to think of the environment without compromising on the quality of the stay. I could have whiled away the hours in the subtly lit lounge area with sheepskin seats and a cinnamon bun had there not been so much to explore just a 5 minute walk away. Stockholm is such a vibrant city and Hotel Skeppsholmen makes the perfect retreat.

Hotel Skeppsholmen is a hidden gem in Stockholm. Set in a quieter area of the city yet just a short 10-minute walk to be in the heart of everything. The hotel was originally built to house the Royal Marines and although it has been completely renovated, many of the original details are scattered throughout the hotel. Skeppsholmen offers spacious rooms with clean modern designs and a touch of Swedish dcor. The hotel's Langa Raden restaurant offers delicious Swedish cuisine with an ever-changing menu in align with each season.
