Nordic climate - May, June and July are the driest months of the year. Mid-June to August is high season, but most highland tours don’t operate until July because of snow. At other times, many tourist facilities outside Reykjavík are closed. From September through March, the night is dark enough to see the Aurora Borealis.

Description

Located in the heart of Reykjavik, on the square just behind Iceland's Parliament, the Hotel Borg was founded in 1930 and is one of the most famous landmarks of the city. In 2006 it reopened its doors having been restored to its former Art Deco glory.

The Hotel Borg is located right in the center of Reykjavik, within easy reach of shops, restaurants, and nightlife. It has 99 rooms, including luxurious and spacious suites, very smart twin and double rooms, and well-appointed single rooms. The Hotel Borg has been a favorite over the years for visitors from all over the world thanks to its high standard of service and the understated elegance of its rooms and public areas.

The refurbishment of the Hotel during the last few years has remained true to the 30s art deco style in which the Borg was built by its founder, a renowned Olympian and strongman of the early 20th century. Even the rooms in the newer parts of the hotel boast antique Art Deco fixtures and knick knacks, combined with more modern Bang and Olufsen televisions and Philippe Starck fittings in the black and white bathrooms, which have heated marble floors.

The Hotel Borg is located on one of the central squares of Reykjavik, very close to the Icelandic parliament building and all the shops, bars, and restaurants of this compact capital city.

The hotel is also home to Jamie's Italian and the Kaffibrennslan bar serves coffees during the day and cocktails and aperitifs in the evening to both guests and non-residents.

Hotel Borg is ideal for a guest who enjoys classic European hotels, with smart art-deco dcor and spacious rooms. I loved waking up in the morning to a view overlooking a tree-filled square, before heading down to the restaurant for a mixed Western and Icelandic breakfast. The staff are so friendly and helpful, and can give useful tips for the best places to go and sights to see in Reykjavik.

The historic Hotel Borg is a staple in Reykjavik. Set in the perfect central location, close to the best restaurants, bars and shopping, Hotel Borg offers spacious, comfortable rooms that will be the perfect haven after a long day of sightseeing. On the ground floor of Hotel Borg you will find Jamie's Italian restaurant, offering delicious Italian dishes. Alongside the restaurant there is a cosy cafe and lively bar where you will find travelers from all across the world. Hotel Borg also offers a spa, where guests can use the fitness area, hot tub, steam bath, sauna and relaxation room.  This city hotel truly has it all.

Situated right in the heart of Reykjavik, Hotel Borg was a definite favorite for me. I absolutely loved the sophisticated feel of the hotel, with its stately art deco touches such as the geometric globe lamps, polished floors and vintage photos of Reykjavik on the walls, as well as its superb staff. The hotel has very recently had a facelift and now has an additional 43 rooms in the same art deco style, as well as a brand new spa and fitness center. I stayed in one of the new Double Deluxe bedrooms which was extremely spacious and had a huge glossy marble bathroom and funky geometric headboard. The breakfast was delicious with infinite options to satisfy everyones needs and preferences. I also absolutely loved the location of the hotel which is unbeatable: it is right next to the Icelandic parliament on the very pretty Austurvllur Square, which was covered in snow when we were there. Its great location means there are ample opportunities to explore Reykjavik's culture or enjoy its world-famous nightlife.
