The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.

Both North and South Islands are drier on the east coast, rather than on the west, where mountain ranges act as a trap for the moisture-rich winds from the Tasman Sea. It is also worth remembering that it is usually a few degrees cooler on the South Island than the North Island and as New Zealand has a maritime climate, the weather can change rapidly.

Insider's View

I would highly recommend indulging in a personal chef for your stay to take care of your every culinary whim - locally caught crayfish prepared just for you and served on your private deck overlooking the islands... Bliss!

Eagles nest staff will happily organize a boat trip for you. Having the views from your villa make it even more tempting to jump aboard a catamaran!

Why not head to The Duke of Marlborough pub in town right on the water front, for their renowned fish and chips.. delicious!

Wake up early and watch the sun rising over the bay changing the star filled night sky to deep cobalt as the first sleepy boats drift out with white sails across the bay.

Take out Cool Change for a day cruise and picnic lunch or sunset cruise and explore the islands and beaches for your very own. A MUST experience.

Wander down to Russell for lunch overlooking the beach outside the Duke of Marlborough for some of the best fish and chips in town.

Enjoy a soak in the hot tub late at night underneath the stars - on a good night the sky is so clear it really is amazing!

If you're traveling over peak season, make sure to book your Bay of Islands boat trips far in advance as they are very popular and fill up quickly.

For guests looking for privacy during their stay in New Zealand, Eagles Nest is an excellent choice. Located just outside the quaint seaside town of Russell in the Bay of Islands, Eagles Nest is made up of five luxury villas, all with spectacular views over the water. The villas are quite minimalist, but beautifully designed and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The breakfast provisions in the morning were plentiful, and you then have the option to self cater at lunch or dinner, arrange a private chef or dine out in Russell itself. Our stay here was terrific and we could have stayed on much longer - make sure you spend at least two, if not three, nights to really make the most of it. You'll want to spend one day on the water, but it's worthwhile factoring in time to lounge by your private swimming pool.

These villas offer the ultimate luxury escape. Located on a peninsular in Russell, Eagles Nest is extremely private and quiet and each villa is self contained, meaning you can be left completely alone or have as much help as needed from the staff. The villas are minimalist in style yet homely and have everything you need to enjoy your stay and the views are some of the best I have ever seen!

The Bay of Islands evokes a mystery and 'must do' in a trip to New Zealand. Flying into Eagle's Nest in the Bay of Islands by helicopter to stay the night at Rahimoana was pure Bond. Like Minaret its views and architecture are just jaw-dropping amazing. We flew like a dragonfly over a bay of jewels, emerald green islands with golden beaches, sapphire blue seas and aquamarine skies laced with lapis. The Island with the hole - or hole in the rock - Piercy Island stop where we perched like a bird on a tiny platform overlooking the Bay of Islands was awesome. William and his team welcomed us into Eagles's Nest and one look at the sun setting over the simply magnificent view as enough to silence everyone. It is not for everyone as the fabulous minimalistic glass architecture is there for a reason - to bring sky and sea into your space. There is no need for anything other than the view but our chef cooked a wonderful dinner that night with champagne and canaps beside the fire first overlooking the sun dying into a wine dark sea. Everything here is about glass reflecting color and the view. There is every luxury from the sauna, gym, fabulous lap pool, slate hot tub and a sense of the world stopping for a few wonderful days. Trot down to the beach which is 7 minutes away or they will drive you into picturesque Russell where some of the first settlers arrived in this country. The Duke of Marlborough or The Gables are wonderful options for those staying in their other Eyries (one to 3 bedroom) on a bed and breakfast basis and they will shuttle you down. Rahimoana have their own Porsche Cayenne of course.....

Eagles Nest offers totally self-contained villas in a unique setting on a peninsular in Russell, overlooking the stunning Bay of Islands. The villas are brilliant for families as they have two and four bedroom options, each with their own impressive private swimming pool and kitchen. If you do not want to cook for yourself the restaurants of Russell are just down the hill and you can even get a private chef in to your villa to cook you up some local delights. The villas are contemporary in style with modern amenities, even coming equipped with your own ipad so you can drop the staff a quick email with any questions or requirements. They are always on hand with buggies should there be anything you need, from ice cubes to booking a boat trip around the bay. It is chic, stylish and brilliantly private so a fantastic place to escape to.

Russells most impressive offering Im sure. These self-contained villas are set on a private peninsula with striking views over the Bay of Islands. The villas are totally secluded, with electric gates and contact with management is via iPad. This means if you would prefer not to interact with anyone, this is most certainly achievable and incredibly ahead of time! Each villa has a modern kitchen, your fridge is stocked with breakfast and on request, you can have your own in villa chef. Living quarters are minimal with breath-taking views! They say that Eagles News is a place of serenity, beauty, healing and harmony and I can agree it does just that.

With only six private villas on a 75-acre estate, the luxurious Eagles Nest guarantees peace and quiet in an extraordinary location overlooking the Bay of Islands. Activities include waterskiing, golf and diving, and there are private wilderness guides, fitness instructors and massage therapists on call. Chefs are at hand to prepare gourmet meals for guests in their own villas.

X-factor: The stunning, contemporary villas have from one to four bedrooms, home cinemas or projector screens and viewing decks. Four have private infinity-edged pools.

Nestled on a ridge on a private peninsula in the Bay of Islands, each individually designed villa has a private infinity pool, most of which have stunning views out to sea and the islands beyond.

I find this property work incredibly well for families as each villa has a kitchen where you can prepare your own meals - they provide you with a breakfast starter pack and then in the evening, you can either cook for yourselves or they can organize a private chef to come and prepare dinner for you in your villa. A real treat!
