Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tasmania has a temperate climate with 4 distinct seasons. Warm summer days from December to February and sometimes snow in the cooler months of June to September. The best time to visit Tasmania is between October and April, when the weather is at its best. By May, nights are getting cold and days are getting shorter. Winters (June-Aug), especially in the high country, can be quite harsh- though that's the best time to curl up in front of a blazing fire.

After a 2 hour drive from the west coast of Tasmania, up deserted windy roads, we arrived at Cradle Mountain Lodge. We were there in September and it was actually snowing, making the pine trees and hills look lovely. You are really quite high up here so snow is not unusual, even in their summer time sometimes! The lodge is by no means 5 star, but is the best accommodation option. The rooms are comfortable and cozy as they have real fire places, which was quite necessary when I stayed! The spa are was really nice with an outdoor hot tub and lots of treatment rooms. There were a few dining options, and the only really good one was the fine dining restaurant, and this was excellent. Whilst staying there, we went to visit the nearby Tasmanian Devil sanctuary, which was really informative and great to see the devils up close. We also went on a walk around the nearby lake, which only took us about 2 hours, but you can go on much longer hikes. All in all, the best place to stay if stopping here, but don’t expect too much as it doesn’t compare to some of the up and coming luxury properties now present in Tasmania.
