From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half, while the dry season here lasts from December to March. Restored by architect Channa Daswatte with interiors by Kahanda Kanda's George Cooper, each room is light and airy with touches of colonial heritage and a mixture of eclectic Balinese handcrafts and Sri Lankan works of art.
The villa sleeps ten comfortably with five bedrooms spread out across the three lodgings. The villas features a large garden with a pool, a games room and an exquisite library with a collection of good books to get lost in curled up on the sofa.
The front verandah is a perfect spot to spend an evening enjoying delicious Sri Lankan food as prepared for your by your chef. The staff will ensure you are looked after whilst you can enjoy the beautifully kept gardens and the gorgeous living space - your seaside retreat.
20 Middle Street is rented to one party at a time ensuring complete privacy. The property can sleep up to ten people comfortably in the five bedrooms. The main building features two bedrooms - each with four poster beds, the annexe with a double room and a twin room which can also be made into a double, and finally the pool house which has one comfortable queen-size bed.
Although 20 Middle Street accepts children, the property is more suited to an adult vacation. Children under 12 years are not encouraged.
The main house boasts a large living room with a library and games room complete with a snooker table. Here you will also find a dining area opening out to the central garden. The Annex has a large seating area overlooking the gardens. There is a large swimming pool with sun loungers. Speak to your cook and housekeeper to discuss your meal preferences, enjoying a range of different cuisines.
Due to its prime location, guests at 20 Middle Street are in walking distance of Galle's main sites. Visit the Fort and Galle's famous lighthouse before heading to the boutique shops and renowned restaurants. Alternatively your travel consultant can organize trips to Koggala Lake or whale watching at the right time of year.
While staying in the Galle Fort take the time to discover this fascinating colonial town, filled with history. Founded in 1588 by the Portuguese, the fort was subsequently occupied by the Dutch and the British, so there is plenty to explore.
