Description

Housed in a modern colonial-style mansion at the heart of Old Goa, The Postcard Velha is an oasis of calm just a stone’s throw from the Portuguese churches, vast cathedrals and lively streets of this UNESCO world heritage town.

Built in 2014 to reflect the colonial history and Portuguese architecture of atmospheric Old Goa, The Postcard Velha is a simple yet luxurious boutique retreat set on the lush Champakali estate. Surrounded by coconut plantations atop a hill overlooking the delta of the Mandovi and Zuari rivers, this haven of tranquillity is perfectly located to explore the centuries old heritage of Goa’s former capital, once dubbed the ‘Rome of the East’. Sitting amongst the sprawling grounds, the hotel blends a modern aesthetic with colorful splashes of traditional Goan flair, with wide verandas and light, airy interiors. Just eight rooms reinforce the feeling of space and privacy, each individually designed with a contemporary tropical theme. Hand-carved beds, floor-to-ceiling windows and whirring ceiling fans hark back to Goa’s colonial past, whilst modern bathrooms and luxurious amenities bring the hotel right up to date.

At the heart of the Postcard philosophy is creating hotels with soul and a true sense of place. Along with delicious fresh fruits and continental breakfasts, the cuisine at The Postcard Velha is created with Old Goa’s heritage in mind. Feast on freshly prepared fish dangar, pork feijoada or spicy prawn balchao, regional specialties of the former capital of Portuguese India, whilst overlooking the Zuari river and the lush tropical gardens. For a truly authentic glimpse into life in Old Goa, stroll out of the hotel and visit the atmospheric relics of this once great city, from the imposing Sé Cathedral to the elaborate Basilica de Bom Jesus. The staff at The Postcard Velha can suggest the best ways to explore this UNESCO listed town on foot, or arrange a private guide for an in-depth exploration.
