This luxury boat is chartered on an exclusive basis and has just two cabins, allowing you to travel in style between Thailand and Laos.
Traveling along the Mekong, you can tailor daily excursions to your interests and enjoy a journey that is uniquely crafted
Blends traditional design such as teak wood and thatched roofs with 21st century amenities including air conditioning, wifi and ensuite showers
An onboard chef serves a fusion of Laotian and French cuisines in scenic and ever-changing surrounds
November to April is the best time to visit Laos with dry and warm weather, with March and April being the hottest months. October and May are also good months to visit with only a bit of rain. July to September are the wettest months in Northern Thailand and Laos.
Artfully crafted from teak and thatch, the exclusive two-suite Gypsy is a beautifully appointed vessel that charts a path along the Mekong River, stopping as and when you wish to curate a voyage of discovery between the Golden Triangle and Luang Prabang.
Winding its way down the iconic waters of the Mekong River, the charming Gypsy is a vessel laden with rustic character but artfully transformed into a beautiful and supremely comfortable accommodation. Large windows in the two cabins afford sublime views of the passing countryside, flooding the rooms with light. At separate ends of the boat and opening onto a central lounge, the two cabins each come with their own ensuite shower with bathrobes, slippers, and a hairdryer. A mini-bar, iPod docking station, Wifi and air-conditioning bring the boat firmly into the 21st century, yet the overall ambiance calls to mind the glory days of river travel, of impossibly elegant explorers charting a path into unknown territory.
A generous ratio of staff to guests ensures a level of service above that of many luxury hotels. An onboard chef fuses French and Laotian cuisines into a range of delicious dishes, served either al fresco on the sundeck or in the charming dining room. Enjoy pre-dinner cocktails as the sun sets, the water gently laps the edge of the boat and the jungle landscape slips by at a languid pace.
Booked on an exclusive basis, Gypsy becomes your very own vessel and the Mekong is yours to explore. With two sailings, either 3-nights/4-days from Luang Prabang to the Golden Triangle, or the shorter reverse journey taking 2-nights and 3-days, the boat sails through an exquisite landscape of rice paddies, mist-veiled mountains and hill tribe villages. Trek through lush jungle, sample local whisky, visit ancient temples or simply sit back in an oversized lounger and watch the spellbinding scenery as you drift by. Onboard you could try your hand at Laotian cooking, pick up a few words of the language, or soak in the sun on deck.
With two cabins, one with king size bed and the other with two twins, the Gypsy is ideal for older families or small groups. Teak wood, thatched roofs and sympathetic styling bring to mind a bygone era of river travel, while air-conditioning, comfortable bed linens and an ensuite shower bring the cabins into the modern age. With floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening onto a central lounge from each cabin, you can sit back and let the fresh air in as you watch the mists dancing around the mountains and the small local boats traversing their way down the mighty Mekong.
Children are welcome onboard Gypsy and, though there are no specific facilities for them, one of the cabins features two twin beds, ideal for families. However we would suggest the cruise for slightly older families, rather than younger.
The 41-meter vessel boasts a number of social areas, with a sundeck, dining room and bar lounge, ideal for sunset drinks. While creating a convivial atmosphere onboard, the various lounges also offer space to retreat should you wish to enjoy the views in peace. An onboard chef whips up surprisingly delicious meals inspired by French, Laotian and international cuisines, enjoyed in the dining room or al fresco.
As a chartered boat, the days can be spent as you wish and the daily excursions tailored to your interests. While traveling along the Mekong you may step ashore to explore the lush jungle on foot, or visit a small local temple or hill tribe village. Try your hand at freshwater fishing or spend some time with the chef to learn the art of Laotian cooking.
Gypsy offers two chartered sailings, with upriver departures from Luang Prabang traveling for 4 days to reach Chiang Saen and down river taking 3 days from Chiang Saen to Luang Prabang.
