Insider's View

The cooking course at Four Seasons Chiang Mai is the best I have ever done. Visiting the market with the chef is great fun and the setting where you learn to cook is amazing. It is worth pre-booking though as it really popular.

I absolutely loved the pool villas at the Four Seasons - set within the rice paddies they are so unique.

The resort is about 30-40 minutes outside of Chiang Mai but this takes you closer to lots of activities and means that you really are staying amongst the tropical hills of the north!

Try their Sai Ana spicy sausage unique to the North Lanna region, it takes a month to preserve and is absolutely delicious!!!

Head out on a chef-guided shopping expedition through local markets, and purchase authentic cookware to make your Thai dishes more personal.

Don't miss out on the top notch interpretations of Northern Thai and Yunanese classics at the excellent Khao restaurant.

A wonderful Four Seasons resort set in a tranquil, idyllic location. The perfect luxury base from which to explore the local culture, relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and experience excellent service and facilities.

The Four Seasons Chiang Mai is a stunning resort set in the beautiful Mae Rim Valley, just north of Chiang Mai. It is designed like a traditional Thai village, laid out around working rice terraces and surrounded by mountains, and a stay here feels like stepping into another world yet is just 30-minutes drive from the center of Chiang Mai.

The spacious pavilions and huge residences are luxuriously appointed with local touches, and all have outdoor salas with daybeds. Twelve luxurious one-bedroom villas set in tropical gardens have been added to the portfolio at the Four Seasons Chiang Mai, with stunning views onto the mountains and spacious private pools.

The renowned cuisine here must be sampled to be believed and not only is the food fantastic but the settings for the various restaurants simply stunning. For the ultimate in romance, the Rice Barn is a private dining venue for two overlooking the resort's rice paddies and lake - after a five course candlelit meal, designed by yourselves with the chef, you can release a krathong - or banana leaf cup - containing a candle, onto the lake in traditional Thai style.

From the hotel, you can explore the rich culture of the local area, visit elephant sanctuaries or take part in a cookery class preparing local dishes at the renowned cooking school. The resort is well equipped for all ages with an award winning spa with plentiful indulgent rituals, and has something to suit every pace of vacation.

The cooking school is quite spectacular, I dipped in for one days training and feel like I learned more than I have done for a long time. The luxurious spa, with 7 treatment rooms and separate beauty salon, it also has a special parlour for childrens treatment, princess parlour I believe. I particularly enjoyed lunch at the Sala Mae Rim restaurant. I could see afternoon tea was also a key event. The pool is on two layers, one pool is more child friendly and the other offers privacy for honeymooners.

Wishing to take some real life cooking experiences home with me, I took part in the Four Seasons fantastic cooking school. Open 6 days a week and set amidst beautiful gardens complete with a waterfall, we were fully immersed into the ancient art of preparing spicy soups, traditional soups and Noodles. The chef passed on secrets of Thai curries, Thai appetizers and the Chef' special recommendations and we finished a perfect half day at The Chef's Table where there were yet more demonstrations before our amazing meal of 15 different Thai dishes to share! Yum!!!!!

Four Seasons Chiang Mai has a rather special spot amongst the padi fields and hills of the north. The natural landscaping is at the heart of the resort, providing wonderful views, many activities and as a food resource! The rooms themselves are admittedly a little dates but you usually bypass that as they are still very luxurious and spacious and offer lush views. They are also due to be upgraded soon.

The Four Seasons is in a really rural location amongst lush working rice paddies and with a beautiful mountain backdrop. It is a great place to get a feel for the rural northern part of Thailand and you can go for great walks in and around the resort. It does take around 40mins to get into Chiang Mai so it is not ideal if you are looking to eat out every night but it is perfect for guests looking for peace and quiet in luxurious surroundings.
