Average time to visit
Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. It starts to get wetter in May and the wettest months are September and October. It is still possible to visit during this time as rain usually falls as short sharp storms. November is a fantastic month to visit Cambodia as it is very green after the rainy season and the lakes and rivers are full of water.

Occupying what was once the 1960's guest villa of Cambodia's retired king, Amansara is exclusive, luxurious and tranquil – the perfect retreat after a day's sightseeing offering fantastic service, delicious cuisine and luxury accommodation.
Following Aman’s philosophy for zen-like simplicity, whilst not compromising on the highest possible levels of comfort, accommodation and service, Amansara is one of the most exclusive hotels in Siem Reap. Just 10 minutes from the entrance of Angkor, Amansara is a tranquil and exclusive garden enclave just a stone's throw from one of the most imposing UNESCO World Heritage Sites of over 1000 ancient temples.
The 24 suites are open plan with polished marble floors, creamy stucco walls and rich, dark Asian timbers. The rooms feel ultra modern and minimalist and beyond the combined sleeping and living area is the bathroom which opens onto a light-filled courtyard. 12 of the suites have their own salt water infinity pool.
Dining is in the imposing unique circular dining room or out on its terrace with fabulous panoramic views. Lunch by the poolside and dine under the stars on the roof terrace or in the comfort of your suite's own private courtyard. The chef specializes in Khmer favorites and elegant Western dishes and the food is simply exquisite.
The original slate swimming pool and lap pool offer respite from the heat and for a total immersion into relaxation, a treatment at the tranquil spa specializing in traditional Cambodian massage and beauty techniques is a must.
Amansara's 12 Suites and 12 Pool Suites have a similar setting and are sumptuously designed with open spaces, plenty of natural light and terrazzo and timber throughout. Each has a private outdoor courtyard, an open plan sleeping and living area with sofa, dining table and chairs. The bathrooms have beautiful floor to ceiling glass doors which open onto a light filled garden. All suites are air-conditioned with ceiling fans, music systems and wireless internet. In the courtyards, the Pool Suites have a private pool measuring 6m x 5m. Included in your stay is breakfast and a choice of lunch or dinner daily, non-alcoholic beverages, laundry and house outings once a day with an English-speaking guide and driver.
Children are treated extremely well at Amansara who provide cots and welcome packs for babies and can tailor the daily excursions to suit families with children. Children are welcome in the main dining room and special meals can be prepared. Highchairs are available as are nannies or babysitters (but please give plenty of notice).
Amansara's circular dining room with 7-meter ceiling is the focal point for the hotel and serves fabulous Khmer and Western dishes with the freshest if ingredients. There is a walk-in wine and cheese cellar and casual lounging area but guests can also dine by the poolside or in their suite. Amansara has two lovely pools - one curved slate pool surrounded with comfy sun loungers and one lap pool for exercise. There is also a library with books, CDs and board games, a gallery, a wonderful roof terrace perfect for meals, drinks and retreating peacefully in the shade. Amansara's spa has four treatment rooms, each with a separate relaxation area and private steam bath and shower and here soothing massage and beauty treatments using Cambodian techniques and Aman's own natural spa product range can be enjoyed.
Excursions once a day with a private guide and driver (in a motorized trishaw) are included in your stay at Amansara and these focus on the local point of interest within the Angkor complex. In addition you may like to explore the fishing villages of Tonle Sap, deeper into the countryside or explore independently by a bicycle. The hotel organizes cooking classes or even take a helicopter tour.

Classic Aman hotel - lots of space and amazing service, charming staff who think of things before you even have! The rooms are simple but beautifully designed and so spacious and there is a lot of history to the hotel, which is well worth asking the staff about. The food is fantastic and you'll be spoiled with pre- and post-temple visit breakfasts.

Just 24 suites make up this fantastic property near the heart of this historic town. Its because of this small size why theres a really lovely, friendly feel to the place. As with any Aman the service is perfect, theres always a smiling face on hand to offer you drinks & refreshments and to make sure you are relaxed as possible the exact thing you need after a long day climbing the temples! Even though you are in the town it doesnt feel like this (like some of the nearby properties). Its quiet & peaceful and when you are there its hard not to properly zone-out by the pool. The suites are lovely as well, beautifully decorated & well equipped they make a fine place to spend a few evenings. Also, as its on the resort is smaller end of the scale you are never more than a minute away from ones of the two pools if you need cooling down. A great property that I loved!

My experience at Amansara was beyond incredible. Of course the food was fantastic, the rooms stunning, the spa brilliant and overall great design of the hotel. However what really stood out was the service which was unbelievable. The staff here are charming and friendly and have narrowed it down to a fine art how attentive to be. Also passing comments between staff and guests are picked up in an instant so that you never have to ask or question anything twice even when speaking to a different member of staff - it really is an incredibly luxurious well oiled machine that works perfectly.

What I love about Amansara is that they really focus on the local Khmer culture and regularly invite local and visiting scholars to give talks on anything from history and architecture to dance and art. The talks are usually in the early evening and very informal. When I was there, I was lucky enough to go to a fascinating talk on Cambodian traditional dance, followed by a beautiful demonstration. I then sat down for traditional Khmer set dinner (all included in the price) and this was the best meal I had in the entire two weeks that I was in Cambodia. It was a great meal of local dishes, simple and home-cooked but so, so tasty. The Amok (local specialty of fish cooked in banana leaves) was amazing, I wish I could re-create it at home!
