One of the oldest and most traditional wineries in the Colchagua Valley
Warm and friendly atmosphere
The boutique hotel is at the heart of the estate and was originally the old family home, a colonial house with rooms surrounding a lovely cobbled courtyard
Only a couple of hours drive south of Santiago
Excellent food and wine
Santiago is a year-round destination but the most pleasant months to visit are October to April. Although summer (November to April) is hot, breezes disperse the smog that shrouds the city for most of the year and there is lots of sunshine. Over winter (June to September) you’ll see the Andes wreathed in snow and can ski nearby, but the weather is chilly and rain can be an issue. Spring-like September is Chile's national independence month, and is full of activity.
Casa Silva is one of Chile's finest and most traditional wine estates located south of Santiago, in the famous Colchagua Valley. Casa Silva offers fabulous wine tours, beautifully decorated and affordable accommodation and an excellent restaurant.
The Casa Silva estate is located in the Colchagua Valley, near the town of San Fernando, at the foot of the Andes. It is a magical place that is steeped in history and Chilean tradition. Accommodation is located in an authentic Colchaguan house on the estate, which has been converted into a boutique hotel and has seven finely decorated rooms.
The restaurant, situated within one of the three barrel rooms, serves a wonderful selection of Chilean food and wine as well as international dishes. The Vina Casa Silva winery is open for visits and tasting throughout the year. Guests can wander through the old structures, taste Vina Casa Silva wines, enjoy the stunning natural surroundings and go on carriage rides through the vineyards. Guests can also visit the cellar, one of Chile’s oldest and most attractive and the vineyards that are adjacent.
One can also go cycling to the polo field to watch professionals practicing and demonstrations at the rodeo arena. Chilean rodeo, distinct from its North American cousin, is an integral part of the country's rural culture and a spectacle well worth watching.
Casa Silva features seven finely decorated rooms which offer plenty of luxury and rustic charm amongst the stunning beauty of the vineyard landscapes of the Central Valley.
Children are welcome to come and stay at the hotel, and babysitting can be arranged upon request, but there are no specific facilities or interconnecting rooms available.
Facilities at Casa Silva include a swimming pool and a restaurant serving Chilean and international cuisines with a fantastic wine list as one would expect but at very reasonable prices.

This enchanting B&B is a wistful paradigm of French country chic. The Silva family left the infrastructure of this old hacienda as is and spruced up its interiors with restrained elegance to create a Provincial style that leans heavily on the white, distressed-paint wood look on all of its beams, pillars, and furniture, and fitted the interiors with crystal chandeliers, four-poster beds, oriental carpets, and overstuffed couches. Guest rooms are spacious and homely without sacrificing style or flair. They are each decked out in a different color, such as lime, ruby, or with gingham-check wallpaper. Room 4 is particularly well conserved and features high ceilings. Considering its location, this B&B is more suitable for visitors with a rental car, as it is a 30-minute drive to Santa Cruz and not within walking distance to anything.
The Casa Silva Restaurant has the same rustic-chic decor as the hotel, and serves very tasty cuisine at decent prices, including meats, seafood, and salads. My only caveat is that during lunch they might or might not have patio seating; otherwise the restaurant is windowless (overlooking their barrel cellar).
