Average time to visit

Temperatures in Bahia vary little from month to month and it's warm all year round, with average highs hovering around 30°C. April to July is the wettest season (though it can rain at any time) and June to September bring slightly cooler evenings. Salvador goes mad during Carnival (February or March depending on the year) - more than 2 million party-goers hit the streets for a colorful riot of dancing and drinking - expect prices to hike and availability to fall dramatically.

As an alternative to Rio, consider Bahia for Carnival, which is even more colorful and lively if that were possible.

From the moment you walk in, you are transported to another world, away from the energetic hustle and bustle of Salvador, and into a world of the Portuguese spice trade. I loved the rooms, all unique and decorated according to the countries on the old spice routes, and the restaurant is absolutely divine. As for location, there is no better place in all of Salvador.
