Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.

Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch is in amazing ski in / ski out location, between Arrowhead and Beaver Creek. It is worth bearing this in mind when choosing the property, if you wish to dine out a shuttle is required to Beaver Creek which takes about 10-15 minutes, this is offered complimentary by the hotel. Although it is in a more secluded location I quite liked this as you almost have private access to the ski lift outside of the hotel. The pool area is beautiful, right in front of the hotel you can see the skiers coming back down and you have wonderful mountain views. The Spa is amazing, possibly my favorite from the Colorado properties, with extensive facilities and built from natural materials. The overall ambiance and cosy feel with all of the wood and open fires makes you feel like you're in a chalet Lodge rather than a hotel. Make sure you dine in the new WYLD bar and restaurant, the newest addition to the hotel in December 2016.

The arrival alone to The Ritz Carlton will leave you feeling like the rich and famous, after passing through two security gates and a meandering uphill drive, you will arrive at the very private and luxurious Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch. You would be forgiven if you thought you had arrived at a Yellow Stone park lodge with the exposed beams and extensive stone work. All of the rooms are bright and spacious, but in my opinion you simply cannot beat the views to what looks like your very own ski resort. At the end of your day choose from either the pool deck and Jacuzzis or head to the Grotto in the spa area which is hugely popular and quite a treat - the spa here was voted number 1 spa by Travel and Leisure. The dining choices are excellent I would recommend the pizza at Spago which is to die for and at Buffalo's the chilli is HOT but great!
