Average time to visit

Florida is a year-round destination with balmy winters, but summers can be hot and humid. The best time to visit Florida is between March and May and in December when it is warm and sunny, before the weather begins to get too hot. Hurricanes and other less serious tropical storms can strike Florida any time in the summer up to the end of November, however the risk is greatest between August and October.

Sitting on thirteen miles of pristine white-sand beach, Ritz Carlton Amelia Island offers a family retreat perfect for soaking up the famous Florida sunshine. Stay active with watersports on the beach or head to the spa for some well-deserved downtime.

Located in the very north of Florida, Ritz Carlton Amelia Island offers guests an idyllic getaway. With the sprawling landscape and scenery echoing that of Georgia which lies just a few miles north, Amelia Island has a southern ambiance and charm that other beach destinations in Florida may lack. Beaches are fringed by palm trees, driveways are dotted with oak trees draped in moss and the towns are characterful, with an obvious Southern charm.

Amelia Island itself is a relaxing and peaceful place to unwind for a few days. Surrounded by scenic salt marshes, this barrier island is a haven for wildlife and water-based activities such as kayaking and boating which makes this an excellent place for families. Head out on an island adventure, discover the downtown history of Fernandina Beach or play a round of golf. However you wish to spend your time on the island, you will be delighted at every turn.

Offering a great variety of restaurants, guests can wake up to great breakfast options, enjoy lunch by the poolside and retreat to the hotel after a day on the beach to indulge in top-notch dining and fine cuisine. Those staying in club level rooms will benefit from complimentary continental breakfasts with tea and coffee, evening h'ordeuvres and a dessert hour too, all with excellent sweeping views over the Atlantic. For the rare rainier days or in the evening, kids (and adults) will love the games area, named 'Our Space' where they will find arcade games, an air hockey table and a spacious movie theater complete with a large selection of DVDs.

Even though the hotel has all you need to stay entertained, guests will enjoy heading out to downtown Fernandina Beach, a great little shopping district with excellent restaurants, delicious ice cream parlours and indulgent fudge shops.

Bryony Butler (Staff)

Amelia Island is a great stopping point only 3 hours north from Orlando with a much sought after beach after an often-hectic Disney orientated stay.  The Ritz Carlton is all you could hope for and expect from the brand, the design is classic and although the rooms havent been refreshed for a couple of years they are comfortable and timeless, all rooms benefit from an ocean view.   The beach is one of the best on the Atlantic Coast with quieter waters and miles of white sand, the pool is also larger with plenty of sun loungers set on tiers to provide all guests with a sea view.  The hotel has a lively atmosphere in the evenings and does host a couple of corporate events however the guest rooms are very comfy and quiet.  Every evening the hotel serves complimentary herb and fruit infused bourbon in the lobby bar on a first come first served basis.
