Easily accessible from Anchorage or Talkeetna via the Parks Highway
A collection of 46 rustic cabins a short distance from the entrance to Denali National Park
Facilities include two outdoor hot tubs for relaxing evenings under the stars
WiFi is available unlike at the more remote properties within the national park itself
If you're lucky you may see the northern lights from here, the best time for this being late August or September
Alaska is best visited throughout its summer months of May to September, with peak season running from June to August. This is when the temperatures are at their warmest and daylight hours are at their longest. Denali Cabins are open from mid-May until mid-September.
Enjoy a rustic wilderness experience as you discover the iconic Denali National Park from the traditional and charming Denali Cabins. Located just outside the park, the 46 wooden cabins provide easy access to hiking and bear-viewing within.
This collection of 46 charming and comfortable cedar cabins sit just eight miles from the entrance to the jaw-dropping Denali National Park, providing easy access to adventures within this iconic area of Alaskan wilderness. Although basic, each cabin provides plenty of amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, including private bathrooms, wireless internet, TVs and phones, unlike similar properties that are located in remote sections of the National Park itself.
Facilities at the site include two outdoor hot tubs, perfect for spending an evening admiring the night sky or, if you're lucky, the northern lights. There is also Prey, an on-site bar and restaurant which serves up delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners that are perfect for refuelling before exploring the mountains and forests of Denali. The menu features a range of hearty and tasty pub classics, as well as traditional Alaskan fare and boxed lunches to take into the park when necessary for your scheduled activities.
Denali National Park is famed for its spectacular mountains, the highlight of which is undoubtedly Mount Denali (formerly McKinley), the highest peak in the whole of North America. Enjoy a series of adventurous activities in its shadow, including hiking, biking, water rafting or even flight-seeing, using the cabins as a base.
A large number of cabins have been erected in a small area just off the main road. They were very cold in the second week of September (2'C outside, 2'C inside). To be fair, we turned the heater off to sleep because it was about as noisy as an Airbus taking off, but fortunately there was enough cosy bedding for a polar expedition! There is a restaurant onsite, on the other side of the car park, and the food was of a better standard than the accommodation. There is also a collection of bars and hotels another mile or so north.
I would only recommend these cabins for guests looking for a convenient stop-over (the bus into the Park picks you up from directly outside the cabins), and those hoping to keep costs down, since the only other options are within Denali National Park itself.
Your adventure begins when you board a converted school bus and venture deep into Denali National Park. This half day trip offers an unforgettable wildlife experience (wolves, bear, caribou, moose) and sightseeing Denali's most iconic landmarks.
Denali Cabins can be found eight miles south of the entrance to Denali National Park, set in the woods just off the easily accessible Parks Highway.
