Voted #3 resort in Central & South America by Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards 2015
Nicaragua's premier luxury beach resort with only 36 ocean view villas
The tourist season runs from December to April. Nicaragua has a topical climate with two seasons, the dry season (December-April) and rainy (May-November). Though the temperature is fairly consistent throughout the year, the rainy season can see torrential downpours.
In nearly all Nicaragua, April and May are the hottest, driest months. December and January are the coolest months and easily comprise the most refreshing and greenest time to visit Nicaragua. September and October are Hurricane Season in the Caribbean and the rainiest months in Nicaragua.
Breathtakingly perched above the Pacific surf on Nicaragua’s Emerald Coast, Mukul, an Auberge Resort is a fabulously luxurious boutique beach hotel, superb for couples and families alike, in an exciting and little-known adventure destination.
Mukul, an Auberge Resort provides Nicaragua with its first seriously luxurious resort, and there are 37 spacious accommodations, each with jungle or ocean views, private pool and butler service. Stay in one of the spacious one- or two-bedroom Beach & Ocean Front Villas, which have stone walls and gardens providing privacy, an indoor-outdoor setting, complete with swimming pool, wrap-around deck, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
Alternatively opt for a bohio, which perches in the lush canopy, with dramatic views above Playa Manzanillo and of the frequently incredible sunsets. Each bohio features high ceilings and a glass wall that opens onto a sweeping wooden deck with a private plunge pool.
For larger family groups, the Suite Dona Vivian Two bedroom presidential suite or Four Bedroom Casona Don Carlos Presidential Suite are the height of opulence. They include indoor-outdoor living areas, palapa ceilings and private swimming pools.
Meals are taken either in the relaxed beachfront La Terraza or the more formal La Mesa Restaurant and offer a fusion of international cuisine with a Nicaraguan flavor twist. Palapa lounge offers small bites and creative coctails and Tres Ceibas is a barefoot beach bar with casual dining. The Beach Club is the heart of Mukul, a gathering place where guests can enjoy snacks by the pool, a romantic barefoot candlelight dinner, or a Flor de Caña rum cocktail.
The complimentary Kul kids program offers children from 4 to 12 years old adventure and fun during their stay, with an open-roof palapa playroom, a movie theater with the latest gaming systems and electronic toys, a pool and an outdoor playground. Children are professionally looked after and can participate in numerous activities that show off the nature, culture and traditions of Nicaragua, such as indigenous art, shell collecting, nature hikes or taking part in the Olive Ridley turtle release program.
The spa comprises six casitas, each individually designed and offering a unique set of treatments based around a central theme, from aromatherapy to Turkish bath rituals and traditional treatments using medicinal plants and herbs. Each of the six spa casitas focuses on a different spa experience. A fully-equipped gym is also on site.
Activities range from a round of golf at the incredible David McLay Kidd-designed 18-hole course, taking surf lessons, reef snorkeling, sailing, deep-sea fishing, scuba-diving excursions, and the resort even has a private yacht available for day excursions and sunset cruises. Nature walks are very rewarding, and the local reserve is home to monkeys, sloths, iguanas, tropical birds and many other animals.
There are 12 one- and two-bedroom Beach Villas, each with a wrap-around deck, private swimming pool, outdoor lounging palapa and a secret garden with an outdoor shower. Bathrooms include separate his and hers vanity rooms, one facing the garden, the other the ocean. The 23 Bohios are situated 300 feet above Playa Manzanillo, nestled like tree houses in the lush rainforest canopy, and offer privacy and luxury. Constructed of sustainable native teak and pine, they feature floor-to-ceiling glass, and a sweeping wooden outside deck with private plunge pool and separate lounging veranda with daybed.
