Average time to visit

Baja California is characterized by a mild year-round climate, which makes it the perfect getaway anytime of year. Summer (April to September) brings heat and humidity coupled with the threat of hurricanes (September and October). Some restaurants also closed during these months. Winter (December to March) brings more pleasant weather and tourist crowds. This is also when the whale-watching is at its best.

Description

Posada de las Flores is an intimate, family-run posada, ideally located on La Paz's Malecon seafront promenade. There are just ten rooms and suites creating an intimate atmosphere and it is perfectly placed to enjoy spectacular sunset views.

Posada de la Flores La Paz is perfectly situated on the stunning La Paz promenade. This boutique bed and breakfast has the ambience of an authentic, colonial style Mexican residence and each of the ten rooms has been completed with traditional decor. Breakfast is served daily on the spacious common terrace overlooking the sea.

La Paz offers travelers a true taste of traditional Baja, with its rich cultural heritage and laid-back traditional values. The Malecon seafront promenade features local artists' sculptures and works and is lined with restaurants, shops and ice-cream parlours. It comes alive with locals enjoying the dramatic sunsets in the evenings. A delightful city La Paz might be, but the main draw for visitors is the stunning archipelago of Espiritu Santo. These dramatic cacti strewn islands rise out of the Sea of Cortez, with stunning white sandy cove beaches and the azure ocean below. Snorkellers, divers and day-trippers are attracted to this 'Aquarium of the Sea' with its colorful coral reefs and tropical fish, playful sea lion colony who like to swim with visitors, resident dolphin pods and the big draw, the giant whale shark can be seen from October through to May. Additionally, illusive blue whales, grey whales and humpback whales can be seen between the months of January and March.

Accommodation

There are a total of eight characterful rooms and suites in this intimate hotel, each remaining true to their colonial heritage. Posada de las Flores has 5 standard rooms and 3 junior suites; we would recommend the junior suites if available for more spacious and lighter accommodations located on the second floor.

The Posada is ideally located right on the Malecon, the seafront promenade in La Paz. It's a small colonial house, with traditional, simple but comfortable rooms. The reception is located immediately on your left as you enter and the hotel rooms are orientated around a cobbled courtyard. The standard rooms are on the ground floor with twin beds and these rooms are traditionally Mexican and characterful but they are small and a little dark due to the location on the ground floor and the bathrooms are compact. They are absolutely fine for a couple of nights if you travel very light but we would recommend the more spacious junior suites on the second floor for a more comfortable stay. The second floor also features a homely communal lounge and the terrace access is from here.

A simple continental breakfast is served on the terrace with a pretty view; an ideal place to start the day before island exploring by boat or snorkeling or diving at Espiritu Santo. Overall, the Posada is a traditional, simple hotel it feels very authentic and local, much like the rest of La Paz. There is a plunge pool but you wouldnt really use it as it is so small. For those that want to walk out to La Pazs restaurants and take in the sunset like the locals with a stroll along the Malecon, Posada de las Flores offers the best lodging in town.
