Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The dry season from December to April, doesn't necessarily mean no rain but there should be less of it, is considered the best time to visit Costa Rica. The 'green' season runs from May to November and there is more chance of rain during this time with September and October being the wettest months. It is important to plan well in advance for Christmas and New Year to avoid disappointment (ideally a year) as Costa Rica is extremely popular over this time with repeat bookers. Easter and during US school vacations are also best to plan ahead.

Everything you expect from a Four Seasons. Impeccable service and high-end amenities. The location is amazing with 2 stunning beaches one on the pacific side and one on the bay side, which is much calmer and ideal for all sorts of fun complimentary water sports. While the beaches are gorgeous I had a bit of a hard time finding a quiet spot to relax as there was a group of people celebrating.  Luckily the other beach was fairly empty, and I really enjoyed having a choice between the two beaches. The rooms are nicely refurbished and now offer a modern design with lots of local influences. There is a wide selection of upscale dining options and the breakfast buffet is the best I had in all of Costa Rica.  With guests mostly coming from the US it lacks a bit of Costa Rican flair, but it is the perfect resort to forget all your worries, relax und unwind.

Delivers on everything you'd expect it's name to promise, with more! The facilities are all top of the range, with three great pools, an incredibly extensive spa, three great dining options and two white sand beaches where the biggest problem you'll encounter is whether you want to swim on the Pacific side or the bay side of the ocean. Their kids club and facilities for children are as impressive as the adult facilities on offer, with a kids club itinerary that works from 7am-5pm, for children between the ages of 4-12 and a club house complete with children's pool and movie theater. All rooms offer large terraces and balconies that overlook either the bay or the ocean, and offer a huge variety of complimentary daily activities - including surfing on the infamous Pacific Coast. Perfect for guests who really want the most refined experience for their beach stay in Costa Rica.

The Four Seasons is undoubtedly the most luxurious beach resort in Costa Rica. It does however feel much larger and more Americanised than some of the other coastal properties in the country. It is also worth noting that the crowd is almost 100% American and this does tend to change the overall feel of the hotel. I thought the beaches were incredibly beautiful. There is one active beach with kayaks and paddle boards available and lots of kids having fun, playing volleyball and football and generally having a great time. The second beach which is just across the other side of the main pool area faces out to the Pacific and is left more wild and beautiful offering somewhere to really relax. There is a wonderful golf course and a number of excellent dining options which definitely make it feel like the most complete all round resort in the country even if the overall feel is slightly at odds with what the verdant natural beauty that I really felt in other parts of Costa Rica. The rooms here are in blocks and whilst perfectly adequate are far from exciting. If you want to make the most of the hotels surroundings then the villas and Canopy Suites are all located much higher up the hill and offer really incredible panoramas.

This resort really benefits from its stunning location on the Papagayo coast. On entering the hotel, you walk into the lobby which is simply gorgeous, full of bright vibrant colors, including a huge Costa Rican inspired Mosaic. Our room had a gorgeous ocean view and lovely terrace where we could enjoy a drink looking out over the beach below. There are 2 incredible beaches to choose from, one slightly more surfy than the other, but equally as pretty. The Prieta Beach Club was well worth a visit, and it has a lap pool - great for getting a bit of exercise during the stay.

Tico architect Ronald Zürcher, who cut his teeth on his brother Harold's famous and beloved Hotel Punta Islita on the Nicoya Peninsula, was responsible for the design of this flashy resort. While there are a few excellent hotel options in Guanacaste, few can match the Four Seasons for service. If you prefer to experience nature with L'Occitane products in your outsize tub, speedy 24-hour room service, and a retractable bug screen, this place provides it—though the less-desirable critters are no less abundant in rainy season here than anywhere else in the land. Flanked by two beaches (good for swimming but not great for surfing) and rich in ocean sound, the 173 rooms nevertheless lack views of anything but the thick canopy in winter, no matter what you pay to upgrade. In summer, however, the trees thin out at the top, so opt for rooms on the upper floors for an ocean outlook. Viewless guests can find solace on the Arnold Palmer golf course or with a Selva de Osa mud mask in the spa, after dumping the kids at their own (free) club; there's even a separate one for teens. Alas, you'll probably spend less time in the signature restaurant, the inexplicably Italian, and none too hot, Di Mare.
