Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April, when it can nevertheless be extremely humid, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November, and is cooler and drier.
The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February, the peak cyclone months, are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius (although Rodrigues has suffered far more regularly than the mainland) but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain.
Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island – it can rain here at any time of year, and even when it’s not raining the area can be cloaked in low-lying cloud. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer.
Apart from the Christmas-New Year peak, Mauritius doesn’t really have high and low seasons. The situation is more dependent on outside factors (such as the French school vacations, which cause a big increase in demand and prices in August).

A fantastic villa only option, Maradiva sits on a beautiful beach on the West Coast. All villas have been recently refurbished and have a light and airy feel with outdoor living spaces and private pools. A great option for guests wanting some privacy from their accommodation with all the facilities you would expect from a hotel.
The dining options are a real treat with a choice of 4 restaurants at Maradiva and a further 3 in their sister hotel, Sands, which is right next door.

Maradiva villas is a fantastic choice for guests looking for a villa with the facilities of a resort, they are lovely and spacious with a decent size plunge pool perfect for relaxing. I would recommend the beach front villas just a walk away from the beach but still very private.

Set in beautiful gardens, the villas all offer privacy and space. A wonderful beach looks over some of the Mauritian coastline and also out to sea, white sands and blue waters. Offering a great kids club and choice of dining options it is a great place for families. The villas are really big and give space for families and couples alike.

Maradiva is a great couples retreat. The spacious private pool villas are a unique factor and definitely amongst a short supply in Mauritius at a great price. The beach here is a fabulous stretch and I loved the way some of the villas lead directly onto the beach. The only caveat I would give this is that as the beaches are not private you may get a random person wander by your villas so its not as private as one may expect as in other destinations.
There is a small gym here, a tennis court and some water sports however this is a smaller resort and perfect for those seeking real relaxation - a perfect honeymoon retreat.

The Maradiva is located at the far end of a cluster of hotels located on one of the nicest beaches in Mauritius. The villas are currently in the process of being refurbished and are lovely and spacious, although not all of the gardens and pools are 100% private. Shortly there will be the re-introduction of butler service to all of the villas. My lasting memory of Maridiva is the beach, which is really beautiful, and despite the other hotels along the stretch, feels incredibly quiet and peaceful.

If you like the privacy of having your own pool villa, Maradiva will certainly be the place for you. Occupying one of the best locations on the west coast of the island against the dramatic backdrop of the Tamarin and Rempart mountains. Panoramic views over the Indian Ocean complement architecturally striking thatched villas, each one offering a private pool, outdoor dining terraces, 24-hour butler service and open-air garden showers to wash off the sand as you come in from the beach. While all villas offer ample space to unwind and frolic in elegant splendour, the beachfront, executive and presidential villas command the resort's best beach locations. They are just perfect for couples and families seeking 180-degree ocean views. The pace of life is wonderfully peaceful here. The Maradiva spa is a restful retreat influenced by Indian therapies. Pleasures here include the champi Indian head massage that helps to restore the natural shine and glossiness of the hair fibre and kneads muscular tension from the scalp. For the body, nothing beats the Ayurvedic Abhyanga herbal massage along with a 30 minute consultation with the in-house physician - except, of course, the Nectar of the Gods, a 2 hour pampering aromatherapy massage for two including a rose petal bath and a bottle of champagne. Dining at Maradiva is as much about dining in-villa as it is in-restaurant and you can choose from a selection of dishes from both restaurants which will be served with full table setting, candles and flowers. Bliss!
