A Taste of Gion Evening Food Tour

Known as the geisha district, Gion is brimming with traditional Japanese culture, art, and nightlife. The historic name for the neighborhood is the ‘flower district,’ which is used to denote areas with teahouses featuring music and dancing performed by Kyoto’s celebrated geisha. Your English-speaking guide will take you on a memorable food and drink odyssey, with visits to several izakaya to sample local sake paired with regional dishes. Izakaya are small bars and eateries that are a mainstay of Japan’s culture but often feel off limits to tourist. This experience is a great opportunity to learn more about Japan’s national drink and learn why Kyoto is one of the best regions for brewing it. After a sociable dinner, you will venture further into the traditional Gion neighborhood to a small bar stocked with many of Japan’s world-famous whiskies from distilleries including Hakushu, Yamazaki and Chichibu. You will try a choice of three whiskies accompanied by snacks. If whisky is not to your taste, try a tasty house cocktail instead. Do look out for these beautiful kimono-clad performers throughout the evening, darting in and out of the teahouses.
The tour lasts 3-hours starting at 17.00 and is restricted to those over 20 years old.
