Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Fly to Nairobi
Maasai Mara
After arriving in Nairobi, you are met in arrivals and whisked off to the domestic terminal across town for your light aircraft flight to the world famous Maasai Mara. As you near your destination, peer out the window for the wildlife that makes this area so special. Rekero Camp snakes along the banks of the Talek River in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, perfectly positioned by one of the known crossing points during the wildebeest migration. With only nine tents, two of which are ideal for families, sit out on your private deck overlooking the rushing waters of the river below in complete privacy. Boast about the day’s adventures over a delicious meal served out under the blazing African stars, while the gentle sounds of the African bush hum in the background.
Set out in the cool pre-dawn light on one of the twice daily game drives, traversing the sweeping plains of the Maasai Mara. Boasting one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the continent; your expert Masaai guides will help you seize the moment as you follow lions stalking through the grass or perhaps elephants as they frolic in the waters of the river during the golden afternoon light.
Serengeti National Park
The safari continues as you leave the Mara this morning and fly to wilds of the Serengeti, stopping briefly at the border to cross immigration and change planes. Ubuntu Migration Camp moves with the herds, always at the prime location for witnessing one of nature’s wonders. From the luxuriant grasslands of the south where the wildebeest give birth to lanky calves to the rocky outcrops and plains of the north, expect the unexpected in the Serengeti where myth meets reality.
Game drives set out in the soft glow of early morning and late afternoon, when the wildlife is at its best. Spot cheetah as they survey the plains from atop a termite mound, or simply sit out in the dappled shade of an acacia tree while enjoying a picnic breakfast like no other. Immerse yourself in the magic of Tanzania.
Lake Tanganyika and western Tanzania
After one last foray into the wilds of the Serengeti, you fly off to the exotic delights of Lake Victoria – a world away from the open skies of the plains. Scattered along the lake shore, Rubondo Island Camp is the only lodge on the entire island making for a seriously special experience. Each of the eight private chalets look out onto the glimmering waters of the lake, so every guest can observe the abundant bird life that thrives here from their terrace. Every aspect of the lodge is a love letter to the landscape, with viewing decks and nooks where you can enjoy the view with your binoculars. Try to catch sight of otters as they hunt in the shallows while eating breakfast or listen to the noisy chorus of African Grey Parrots as they flock around the pool.
The allure of Rubondo lies hidden in the trees, waiting to be discovered. Trek through the forest, catching sight of the wild chimpanzees that were released on the island 60 years ago. Tracking these elusive creatures is a truly unique encounter, and not to be missed. If your legs need a rest, set out through the foliage on a game drive, seeking the elephant, giraffe and sitatunga that thrive here. Tranquillity beckons on the lake, spend a halcyon afternoon fishing on the cerulean waters with a fully stocked bar. Whatever you do, Rubondo will enchant and leave you wanting to stay just that little bit longer.
