Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from January through to April. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in early June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite the warm. There can be a little rain in the night in October and November. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore this Indian land of mystery.

-
Days 1-3: Mysore
You will start your adventure in Mysore. The best way to reach Mysore is to travel to Bangalore and from here drive for approximately three hours to the city which is full with a wealth of history to uncover and a center for the production of silk, sandalwood and incense. A walk through the markets is always a highlight where you will see endless spices and Indian life. You will uncover the story behind Tipu Sultan and his war against the British and his battle against a young Arthur Wellesley (later the Duke of Wellington).
Accommodation: Royal Orchid Metropole (2 nights)
-
Days 3-5: Wayanad
Next you will drive approximately four and a half hours south to Sultan Battery where you will spend the next two nights. Here you can immerse yourself in plantation life and spend time in Muthanga National Park, home to wildlife such as Gaur, sloth bears, sambar, elephants, reptiles, tigers, spotted deer, monkeys, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, wild dogs, bison, lizards, bears, wild pigs, leopards and among others.
Accommodation: Tranquil Resort (2 nights)
-
Days 5-7: Kerala and Karnataka
From Sultan Battery you will again be driven by your private chauffeur to Nagarhole which will take just over two hours. This is a little visited park that contains tigers, leopards, wild elephants, gaur, muntjac, wild digs, bonnet macaques and common langur. Sightings are pretty good, and tiger sightings are not uncommon.
Accommodation: Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge (2 nights)
-
Days 7-9: Coorg
Coorg will be your next destination, which you will reach by car with a drive just over two hours. Coorg is one of the most popular hill stations of Karnataka with undulating hills and full of coffee plantations, tea gardens and spice plantations. For those interested in culture there are also some interested Tibetan temples and settlements nearby to explore.
Accommodation: Evolve Back Chikkana Halli Estate (2 nights)
-
Days 9-12: Neeleshwar
For your final stop you will have quite a lengthy drive over to the untouched beaches of Kerala’s coast but the journey will be worth it when you have three lovely nights to relax on the beach. Here you can take life slow, and venture out to explore sleepy fishing villages and golden, coconut fringed beaches.
Accommodation: Neeleshwar Hermitage (3 nights)
