Ski mountaineering in The Dolomites is usually a demanding activity and certainly not for beginners, however The Dolomites offer a ski touring experience with a difference that everyone can enjoy - the Sella Ronda circuit.
A circular route leading round the Sella Massif and offering 26km of downhill trails in a single day. The ascents are no problem, you simply use the chairlift network and your Dolomiti Superski lift pass!
For those that would like to add a few more kilometers to their day, head to the rather challenging Porto Vescovo trail from Arabba.
This round trip of the Sella Ronda should be planned properly as it take a good 6 hours. Make sure you set off early and that you have enough time to get the last lift back in the afternoon. You can ski the circuit clockwise or anti-clockwise.
A similar route is the 'Gherdëina Skiring'. Although not so famous, it is just as beautiful and varied and it is the best way of discovering the cosy ski lodges in Val Gardena. The route of the Gherdëina Skiring takes you to Alpe Seceda, Col Raiser, the Saslonch trail, Piz Sella and Dantercëpies.
