Göreme Open-Air Museum
The vast monastic complex of Göreme Open Air Museum is made up of churches carved into rock by a combination of natural and man-made factors. A UNESCO World Heritage site, this open-air museum showcases an impressive array of unique frescoes painted into the rock walls.
Located in the north annexes of several churches are rock-cut tombs, while another highlight is the Esentepe-Panoramic viewpoint. From here, enjoy fantastic views over the magnificent landscape around Goreme, all formed from solidified lava streams, ash, and tuff stone dating from Neocene period.
