This morning descend to a lower altitude and venture through native myrtle-beech rainforest that thrives at the base of Mt Pelion. With the Forth River in site follow the banks of this gushing waterway leading to picturesque Lemonthyme Valley.
Enjoy lunch at the base of the valley beside the Forth River which is also the Overland Track’s lowest point before ascending the banks of the valley through thick Eucalypt Forest towards Pelion Plains. As you skirt towards the grassy plains, Mt Oakleigh’s dominant peak comes into full view – a true site to behold.
On arrival at Pelion plains, opt to relax at the camp with a good book and glass of wine refuelling from your day or opt to explore some of the areas surrounding attractions. From secret swimming holes to abandoned copper mines, here there is something for everyone. Once the sun sets, look up and admire the southern night sky dazzling above you.
