Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Ecuador & the Galapagos can be visited year round. The higher the altitude in the Andes, the cooler it becomes, especially at night. June to September is the best time to enjoy the Andes as this is the drier season. From January to June it is typically hot in the Galapagos and sees sunny days and blue skies interspersed with showers, while the rest of the year is generally cloudier and cooler. From July to September the seas can be heavier and boats tend to go into dry dock for their annual refurbishment around this time. The average temperature ranges from a pleasant 20°C to 28°C, however being on the equator the sun is very strong. Due to limited permits in the Galapagos we advise to book well in advance.

Insider's View

Get your PADI diving certificate before or during your Galapagos stay to tick off even more of the wildlife! (10 years and above). Encounter hammerhead sharks, sea turtles and manta rays.

The combination of visiting the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands ticks off two big bucket list destinations - spotting Scarlett Macaws in the jungle and swimming with a turtle as big as a Mini car in the Galapagos were highlights of this trip for me!

Ecuador is a compact country, around the same size as the American state of Nevada, yet it is so diverse. See the snow-capped Andes Mountains, the Amazon Jungle and the Galapagos Islands in this one itinerary - these magnificent eco-systems are remarkably accessible without too much traveling!

Unique wildlife and unforgettable experiences await - an exhilarating adventure for families or couples ticking off two huge bucket-list destinations!

  1. Fly to Quito

  2. Days 1-3: Quito

Begin your adventure in Quito, Ecuador’s charming capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take ‘El Teleferico’ cable car and feel like you are on top of the world or pay a visit to the Middle of the World museum and get hands on with some equatorial experiments. Next stop on the journey is the mighty Amazon Rainforest. Take a short, 40-minute flight to Coca, before boarding the comfortable boat for your journey to Sacha Lodge. The journey lasts for approximately 2 hours – snacks and water are provided – so you can sit back and let the sounds of the rainforest wash over you as you keep your eyes peeled for primates and toucans. After disembarking and stretching your legs, there is a short paddle boat journey to reach the lodge (motorized transport is not permitted within the reserve). Spend three nights here, enjoying activities from the lodge; visit colorful parrot clay licks, take a canoe night safari to spot caiman and bats, get involved with local Amazon communities and venture along forest trails, all the while looking out for the enchanting wildlife which resides within the forest canopy.
