Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

There's never a bad time to visit the Galapagos. The peak season lasts from mid-June through early September and from mid-December through mid-January. The national park limits the number of visitors to each island and coordinates each ship's itinerary, so the Galapagos will never feel like Disney World. But if you visit in the summer, you are less likely to feel a sense of solitude and isolation.

From December through to May the water and the air are warmer, but this is the rainy season. It drizzles almost daily for a short period of time. Ironically, this is also the sunniest time of year.

June through November, the Humboldt Current makes it way up to the Galápagos from the southern end of South America. The current brings cold water and cold weather, but it also brings water rich in nutrients and plankton, which attracts fish and birds. During this season there always seem to be clouds in the air, but it rarely rains. It's also quite windy, and the seas tend to be rougher.

  1. Fly to Quito

  2. Days 1-4: Quito

Your journey begins in Quito, Ecuador’s capital city. You will be met at the airport and transferred to La Casona de la Ronda, located on a cobbled street in the bohemian La Ronda neighborhood. Spend today enjoying the serenity of your hotel after your long-haul flight and relish on the delights of Ecuadorian cuisine. We've then included a couple of extra days for you to absorb the beauty of Quito and its mountain backdrop as you walk through this fascinating city and explore the colonial quarter, the largest and best preserved of South America and also one of the first UNESCO World Heritage sites. With two full days here you have plenty of time to go at your own pace.

Accommodation: La Casona de la Ronda (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-8: Galapagos

The Galapagos awaits you. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to the airport. Feel your excitement build as you board a plane to the island of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos, gazing out the window at this fascinating archipelago. You will then be transferred by bus to the port, then an exhilarating boat journey and finally another bus to arrive at The Finch Bay Eco Hotel, your home for the next 4 nights. During your days here immerse yourself in the wild and get up close to the most iconic wildlife in the Galapagos. Explore the neighboring islands on board the Finch Bay’s own motor yacht, the Sea Lion, and observe endemic wildlife such as land iguanas and blue-footed boobies. Swim with curious sea lion pups as you watch them playfully tumbling through the water. Paddle around the marine reserve on a kayak and marvel at endemic animals such as a flock of blue-footed boobies. There are a myriad of experiences to enjoy to really get under the skin of the Galapagos and no day will be the same.

Accommodation: The Finch Bay Eco Hotel (4 nights)

  4. Days 8-11: Central Highlands

Today after a morning enjoying Finch Bay you will fly back to Quito, before heading out to your final stop the tranquil Otavalo. Enjoy the change of scenery as you head through rural countryside, arriving in Otavalo, famous for its textiles, artisanal crafts and leather goods. Outside of the city, you will check into the charming residence of Hacienda Zuleta, nestled in the Avenue of Volcanoes. You will be blessed with staggeringly beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. For the next two days you can really choose the pace: head out on horseback through magnificent landscapes, discover aromatic woodlands and winding mountain trails on foot, and let the world open up before you as you cycle into limitless landscapes. If you fancy some time to unwind, enjoy a craft class led by a local artist or tantalize your taste buds as you learn to cook Andean specialties for all the family with handpicked produce from the local farm. Evenings will be spent lazing around a crackling bonfire, listening to traditional Andean music and devouring toasted marshmallows, under the star-flecked night sky.

    Accommodation: Hacienda Zuleta (3 nights)

  5. Fly home from Quito

This morning relish on a hearty breakfast and enjoy a slow-paced morning before being transferred to Quito, in time for your flight home.
