This itinerary provides a lovely introduction to China, staying at some of the most exclusive and stylish hotels in the country. Through your journey you’ll take in the main highlights with a blend of history, culture and stunning scenery as you visit Beijing, Xian, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

  1. Days 1-4: Beijing

    You’ll start your journey in Beijing, a vast metropolis and home to over 12 million people. Having been the capital city of both Imperial and Modern China, it has a fantastic collection of sights and with your private guide you spend your time here visiting these including the vast Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, the Hutongs (the small lanes and courtyard houses of old Beijing), the magnificent Temple of Heaven and the Imperial Summer Palace to marvel at the opulence in which the Emperors lived. On your second full day in the city we have included a trip out to The Great Wall of China to the Mutianyu section where you will be able to enjoy a hike along the wall. In the evenings, retire to the opulent Rosewood Beijing, an ideal address in the city.

  2. Days 4-6: Xian

    After your three nights in Beijing you will take the high speed train to Xian, the ancient capital, where the main attraction is to experience the incredible life size Army of Terracotta Warriors standing guard over the tomb of Emperor Qin Shihuang. As in Beijing, you will have an expert private guide here so that you really understand the impressive history and alongside the Terracotta Army and we have included visits to the Shaanxi Museum, Wild Goose Pagoda and The Islamic Quarter as well. This is a charming east meets west town and the Sofitel hotel is a refreshing property to return to each evening.

  3. Days 6-8: Shanghai

    Fly to Shanghai to uncover the spectacular contrast between the traditional, colonial Bund and the modern, cutting edge Pudong. Here you will have two nights to take in the city and The Peninsula is a spectacular city hotel from which to base yourself, as you take day trips out to explore the traditional water village of Suzhou and enjoy the incredible dining experiences that Shanghai is famed for. Like for the rest of  your journey in China you will have a private driver and guide completely at your disposal.

  4. Days 8-10: Hong Kong

    Finally, to end your adventure you will fly from Shanghai to Hong Kong where you will spend the last nights on your trip at The Peninsula Hong Kong. This is an iconic landmark in the city and the perfect address from which to enjoy all that Hong Kong has to offer. As such a cosmopolitan city, we have not included a guide for you here as we feel it is nice to have some days to explore on your own but of course, if you would like a guide we can absolutely arrange this for you, as all of our itineraries are completely customized.

    Spend an evening exploring the flavors of Shanghai in a visit to a private home, small, family-run restaurants and local shops. Wander the streets on foot, meet the local people and taste some traditional dishes to get under the skin of the city.

  • Forbidden City and Hutong Family Homemade Lunch

    Beijing balances its ancient history with its 21st century lifestyles and this experience is a chance to explore both of these with a visit to the ancient Forbidden City and a chance to meet a local family and join them for lunch in their home.

    Enjoy a half day tour to The Great Wall of China. This visit will take you to Mutianyu and although further from the city it offers a much more natural Wall experience as it is less visited, enabling one to appreciate the stunning countryside.

  • Visit Tiannamen Square & The Forbidden City

    Enjoy a half day tour of Beijing's most well-known landmarks. Start with a trip to Tian'ammen Square before heading onto The Forbidden City, a former imperial palace which was the residence to twenty-four different Chinese Emperors.

  • Visit to The Temple of Heaven & The Summer Palace

    Visit The Temple of Heaven and The Summer Palace on this full day tour. The Temple of Heaven is one of China's most iconic sacrificial monuments meanwhile The Summer Palace, a World Heritage Site, was built as a luxurious royal garden for royal families.
