Tsingpu Yangzhou Cultural Activities

Lacquerware-making is one of the most famous traditional crafts in Yangzhou, having originated since 2,300 years ago from the imperial desire for greater power and wealth. A painstakingly delicate craft, it is one of the most intangible cultural heritages of Yangzhou.

The Chinese zither, also known as guzheng, is a Chinese plucked string instrument capable of producing large, resonant sound. Up to today, Yangzhou continues to be the home to the most well-known gucheng masters in China.

Bonsai gardening has become a renowned practice internationally, but it has its origin in classical Chinese gardens of producing miniature trees and rockeries known as penjing. During its heyday in the 18th century, Yangzhou boasted an impressive landscape of penjing. Yangzhou's bonsai style is known for its distinctive style incorporating three twists of tree trunks.

Guest can also try their hand at designing and carving a traditional seal. Seal engraving has been practiced in China since the Shang dynasty in government offices and has remained widespread up to today. The art of Chinese seal engraving is inscribed into the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
