Itinerary
The Province of Quebec offers a wonderful snowy getaway during the winter months. This week away embraces this magical winter wonderland with dog sledding, snow shoeing and snowmobiling aplenty and even a stay at the Ice Hotel.
First fly from London to Montreal, arriving early evening for a stay in the charming old town. The cobbled streets are even more romantic when dusted with snow with plenty of inviting restaurants beckoning you in to the warmth.
The following day you will have a private transfer out to the stunning Lake Sacacomie and into a white blanketed forest. Peeping above the treetops, Hotel Sacacomie is a welcome sight and you are whisked straight in to warm in front of the log fire.
The hotel offers a host of winter activities. With packs of husky dogs settled into the forest for the winter months, a dog sledding experience is a must. They will kit you out for snowmobiling too with miles of trails that experienced guides will take you out on to. Before you know it you will be in the ultimate scenic winter wonderland. Back at the hotel the spa is the next treat, the hot tubs are well worth the chilly run out to for the view is amazing!
Although the accommodation at Hotel Sacacomie is simple, the welcome is warm and the experience and setting just unforgettable.
After a few days here you climb aboard the float plane once again although now you will be heading north toward Quebec City. Once landed you head out of the city, 10 minutes North for a unique and very special experience, a night at Hotel de Glace. This very special hotel is rebuilt every year and is open for just 3 months in mid winter. This is not a luxury experience but certainly must be done once in a lifetime. Spend a night in a beautifully carved ice chamber in warm arctic sleeping bags, if the budget will stretch to it, I would recommend the Premium Theme Suite with fireplace, for a little touch of luxury.
The next morning, after a warming breakfast, you will be transferred back into Quebec City for the final part of your stay. The city itself was simply built with winter in mind. Delightful cobbled streets hide traditional boutique shops, intimate restaurants and cafes and cosy log fires to warm yourselves from the cold. For the city is very cold during the winter, but this is all part of the magical experience. If you are lucky enough to stay in the first 2 weeks of February, the city comes to life for the Winter Carnaval. With ice sculpture competitions, canoe races, outdoor parties and parades, it is a wonderful time to be there.
Your winter week away finally comes to a close. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight down to Montreal where you connect on to an overnight flight back to London. Alternatively you can take the train back to Montreal for a more scenic and leisurely way to travel.
