Half Day in Gangtey
After breakfast your first stop this morning will be Gangtey Goemba which has a beautiful view over the Phobjikha valley and is home to 300 lay-monks who are studying the Nyingma sect of Buddhism in the monastery.
From the monastery you can take the Gangtey Nature Trail which is a popular route through the area passing streams, rhododendron gardens, the Sumchubara village and a Pine covered forest which opens at a canopy offering beautiful views of the valley on the incline. On the descent the trail passes through the village of Khewang and over the Nake Chu (river) from where you will be met by your car to continue with your tour of the area.
Your final stop of the day will be the Crane Information Center, which provides some interesting information on the valley and the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate from the arid plains in the north to pass winter in milder and lower climate in Gangtey. These winged visitors begin arriving around the last week of September and early October and stay till the beginning of March. The center has binoculars available in order to watch the cranes should they be insitu during your visit.
Return to your hotel for lunch and have the rest of your day at your leisure.
