Hot Sauce & Rum Tasting Tour

Located on the banks of the Macal River, San Ignacio is a short distance from the Lodge at Chaa Creek (about 20 minutes by car). For the more adventurous, we'd recommend starting off your tour by canoing down the Macal River to the town of San Ignacio. The journey will last about 2 hours and you will be accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide.

When you arrive in San Ignacio, start off by paying a visit to the San Ignacio chocolate shop, where they produce completely natural, organic chocolate which is truly delicious - the chili chocolate is a real winner! From there, head next door and sample Belize's most famous hot sauce from the Marie Sharpe brand; her granddaughter will show you around and make sure you pick wisely.

After sampling some sauces you'll be invited through the back into a divine rum cellar, grab a swing at the bar and enjoy a private rum tasting. Learn about the history of Belizean rum, Belize's most iconic drink and its most apparent connection with its Caribbean roots. This a particularly wonderful experience for honeymooners wanting a fun, different experience before dinner. We can arrange dinner to follow either at a nearby local restaurant or organize a romantic private dinner for you at your hotel.
