Very active family vacations when I was young really drove my interest in travel. I loved exploring the new places we visited, trying as much of the local food as I could and meeting people from different cultures. I really fell in love with Africa when I backpacked around South Africa with friends.

I worked for a charity in Zambia for a few months before hitch hiking through the rest of that fabulous country and into Malawi where days were spent lounging by Lake Malawi and on to the Mulanje Massif for some serious hiking. Since then I have been lucky enough to experience the moonlike landscape of the Makgadikgadi and the dense wildlife of the Okavango Delta.

Travel nuggets

  • When on safari try and spend a couple of nights in some 'back to basics' camps. You will feel very close to the wildlife and the thrill will be something you never forget.

  • Take a spare camera battery. You dont want to miss out on that perfect photo.

  • Earplugs are a must for light sleepers, the African Bush is always far louder at night.
