Places to Visit in Turkmenistan
Our top place to visit would be the bizarre capital Ashgabat, starting with the Independence Square where you see an array of striking buildings all made of crystal white marble. Taking photographs of a Government building is not allowed so you will be asked to delete any you take, therefore we recommend you simply take in all the splendour yourselves. More absurd and informative history about Turkmenistan can be found in the National Museum of History which is a must visit. The Altyn Asye Bazar is vast, and located just outside the city, with about 2000 stalls it is worth spending an afternoon in this treasure trove.
We can also organise a meal in the Wedding Palace so you can enjoy delicious dishes while enjoying birds eye views of the city. Finally we would recommend a visit to the Nisa Fortress, a UNESCO cultural heritage site, it is often quiet and without other tourists so you will feel like you are getting a world class private tour.
