Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The best times to visit Istanbul are in spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), when skies are clear and temperatures are moderate. During July and August it is hot and steamy; a lot of Istanbullus head for the west and south coasts over these months and some businesses close. Biting winter winds and snow are common in winter.

Be aware that during the five-day Kurban Bayrami banks shut and ATMs can run out of money. During Ramadan business hours can be erratic. Hotel rooms skyrocket in price and are often overbooked during the Formula 1 Grand Prix in June.

Insider's View

I adore the style of this boutique hotel. Little pieces of sculpture are nestled in corners, each wall boasts a stunning artwork and the colour combinations in each suite are so refreshing.

For a panoramic view of Istanbul, dine at La Mouette. You will be hard pressed to find comparable view in all of Istanbul!

Tomtom Suites name lies in its location at the heart of the Galata district on Tomtom Kaptan Sokak. What seems an unassuming boutique hotel from the outside transpires to be a very assuming hotel inside with restaurant, roof terrace and spacious suites.

Upon entering this old Franciscan nunnery you are met with a dazzling glass artwork and then your eye is drawn to the countless pieces of Turkish art that adorn the walls. At the top of the renovated nunnery is a stunning roof top restaurant and bar whose enviable orientation is towards the Old City, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Mosque.

The hotel houses a selection of suites, each one individually decorated by someone with a very keen eye for design and who has used prints, paintings, handmade rugs and ceramics to great effect. The smallest of the suites is 35 sq.m a size not to be sniffed at for a city hotel and each bathroom boasts a Jacuzzi bath!

The hotel's own restaurant, La Mouette is tucked away on THAT roof terrace and you would be hard pressed to find a better view point to gaze out over the Old City come night time. The cuisine served here is sublime - a gastronomic interpretation on traditional Turkish food with strong references obvious from the tastes but not necessarily so from the deconstructed presentation. The wine list features worldwide wines and vintages but also promotes delicious Turkish wines which are surprisingly refined in taste.

This boutique hotel is a real find in the French quarter of Istanbul, away from the hustle and bustle that is ever present in Istanbul.

This is a city of 1000 things to do - visit the numerous impressive buildings - Topkai, the Grand Mosque to name but a few, shop to your hearts content at the Grand Bazaar, sip cocktails on the Bosphorus, indulge the olfactory senses at the Spice Market or take a day trip to one of the Prince's Islands for a trip back in time.
