Places to Visit in Tajikistan
Begin the city tour of Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital and largest city at Rudaki Park, named after the great Persian poet from 9th century AD. Continue to the adjacent Monument of Ismoli Somoni to learn more about the 10th century leader regarded as Tajikistan’s national hero. Next up is Tajikistan presidential palace before going to Museum of National Antiquities whose collection includes a 1600 year old Buddha in Nirvana statue.
Venture out from the capital city of Dushanbe and discover the old centre of the Sogdian empire, Penjakent. Lying in the Zeravshan Valley, discover archaeological sites often dubbed as “Oriental Pompeii”. Set off for Iskanderkul Lake, situated on the slopes of the famous Fann mountains. Another place worthy of a visit is Khujand, one of the oldest cities with more than 2500 years of history.
