Days 4-7 - Natural Habitat Ursus - Alaska's Coastal Grizzlies
Nothing can prepare you for the feeling when you encounter your first bear from just yards away, and the excitement continues as you capture them in action, trying to seize salmon from the streams and waterfalls of Katmai. As North America's largest land predators, these are impressive creatures and an adult male can weigh around 900 pounds / 65 stone!
Spend your days cruising along the coast to track the bears before disembarking on skiffs to explore the beaches on foot for an even closer view. Depending on the time you visit its possible to see up to a dozen bears at once and a mix of adults and cubs.
Unlike most other trips to Katmai National Park you do not need to stick to boardwalks to observe the wildlife safely; accompanied by your experienced expedition leader you will be led cautiously into bear territory and may even encounter wolves as well!
On day 7 you will be transferred by floatplane back to Kodiak where you will spend the night.
