The Golden Eagle brings unprecedented luxury to, quite possibly, the 'world's greatest rail journey'! This itinerary covers the journey from the magnificent Russian capital of Moscow, passing through historic cities and villages, countless lakes and mountains, attractive orthodox churches and Buddhist temples, endless forests and great Eurasian rivers, and finally to the unbounded steppes of Mongolia.
On arrival at Moscow Airport, you are met and transferred to your hotel in Moscow. You will then have time to explore at leisure. On your first evening in Moscow you will be invited to a champagne drinks reception before an exclusive Welcome Dinner.
Following a morning to explore Moscow further you will be escorted to Moscow’s Kazansky Station where the Golden Eagle awaits ready for departure.
Your journey on the Golden Eagle lasts for 12 nights and will take you across Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok, with stops along the way in Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Lake Baikal and Mongolia. You will spend each night on the train where, typically, you will be travelling through the night so that you can awake the following morning with a new destination to explore. Most days will involve a stop in an iconic location where you will be taken on a city tour or for an excursion. Occasionally you will spend a full day travelling on a train, offering you plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy the passing countryside. There are also numerous activities available on the training including Russian lessons, vodka tastings and talks and discussions.
Highlights of your journey include exploring the historic city of Kazan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visiting the Opera House in Novosibirsk, seeing the classic wooden architecture in Irkutsk and experiencing the natural beauty of Lake Baikal with a delicious BBQ. Your journey also takes you into Mongolia, where you will visit the capital of Ulaan Baatar. Mongolia, once the very centre of an enormous empire led by Genghis Khan, is a country of beautiful landscapes and nomadic people, rich in culture and history.
