Itinerary

Explore the highlights of Iceland, discovering its one-of-a-kind geological features and breathtaking landscapes. During the winter, Iceland’s natural beauty is often enhanced with a blanket of snow, creating truly magical scenery, and the short winter days provide ample opportunity to spot the vibrant colours of the Northern Lights.

  1. Fly to Reykjavik

  2. Days 1-2: Reykjavik

Begin your winter adventure in Reykjavik, Iceland’s colourful capital. This charming city is the northernmost capital city in the world, as well as one of the smallest.

Join your private guide for a tour of Reykjavik, exploring the picturesque streets of the old town and the unique architecture that is dotted throughout the city. Admire the striking Harpa Concert Hall and the impressive, towering Hallgrimskirkja church, the tallest building in Reykjavik.

    Accommodation: Apotek Hotel (1 night)

  3. Days 2-3: Southern Iceland

The next day you’ll leave Reykjavik behind and explore the Golden Circle, following the trail of Iceland’s most iconic natural landmarks with your private guide. Visit the site where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet at Thingvellir National Park and admire the cascades of Gullfoss waterfall, looking out for a rainbow shining above the water on bright sunny days. Continue on to Geysir, where bubbling hot springs, mud pools and the eponymous geyser make for a truly unique spectacle in this centre of geothermal activity.

You’ll spend the night at Hotel Ranga, nestled in a remote location in southern Iceland, far from the city and any light pollution. This rural location is ideal for spotting the Northern Lights throughout the winter months, and the team at the hotel can even wake you up during the night if the lights start dancing as you sleep.

    Accommodation: Hotel Ranga (1 night)

  4. Days 3-5: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Set off from Hotel Ranga with your private guide to discover Iceland’s beautiful south coast, from the thundering waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss to the dramatic black sand beaches and unique geological formations dotted along the coastline. As you travel east, you’ll also have the chance to visit Iceland’s most famous volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, for a once-in-a-lifetime snowmobiling experience across its spectacular glacier before continuing on to the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon.

The following day you’ll visit one of Iceland’s most breathtaking sights, the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Here icebergs break off from Vatnajökull glacier and begin their journey towards the sea, via the glassy waters of the lagoon. Discover this incredible natural wonder with your private guide before you enjoy a unique experience exploring the Falljokull glacier. You’ll climb over the ice towards one of Falljokull’s caves, heading through the glacier’s winding tunnels to admire the incredible natural scenery inside the glacier walls.

Accommodation: Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon (2 nights)

  5. Days 5-6: Southern Iceland

Begin your journey back west along the coast, stopping to hike across one of the impressive glaciers in the south. Your private guide will provide you with all the equipment necessary to begin your hike over the ice field, taking in the fantastic views, colours and textures as you explore hidden crevasses and ridges.

Spend your final night at Hotel Ranga, where you’ll have the opportunity to spot the Northern Lights one last time, before you start your journey home. On your way to the airport you’ll be taken to the Blue Lagoon, Iceland’s famous geothermally-heated lagoon boasting brilliant blue waters, enriched with silica and natural mineral salts, ideal for soothing weary muscles after your Icelandic adventure.
