Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Vietnam is a long country resulting in varied weather patterns. The best time to visit the country as a whole is from January to May with the least rain in both the cultural areas and on the beach. Outside of these months it is possible to still visit and you will get some rain in the north and south from May to November and on the central coast from September to January. Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year falls in late January or early February and is best avoided as many businesses close.

Itinerary

Vietnam is a charming country where you will see the beautiful landscapes in the mountainous area, the stunning landscape of the limestones pinnacles and the diverse cultures as well as the amazing World Heritage site. This comprehensive itinerary will bring you from metropolitan city of Saigon, the World Heritage Town of Hoi An, the Imperial City of Hue, then to the capital city of Hanoi and the world famous Halong Bay.

  1. Days 1-3: Saigon

Your trip begins in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon. This vast metropolis is Vietnam's largest and most modern city, full of lively shopping streets and famous for its rooftop bars.

During your stay in Saigon, the local guide will take you on a tour around the Saigon’s historical landmarks, catch the spectacular A O show at the historic Saigon opera house, experience the local life on a morning market tour with a food expert and not forgetting a day out to the Cu Chi Tunnel, a legendary network of underground tunnels dug by the Viet Cong during the war.

Accommodation: Hotel Des Arts Saigon (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Hoi An

A short flight up to Da Nang on the central coast. From here it is just a short drive to the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Town of Hoi An, home to twisting streets decorated with colourful paper lanterns and the famous tailor shops.

During your stay you can visit the elegant pagodas, Japanese covered bridge and bustling riverfront markets where you can have clothes tailored for you. We have included a walking & boat tour of the town where your guide will show you around the historic old town and a morning tour with the local fisherman to experience a unique Vietnamese way of life.

Accommodation: Anantara Hoi An Resort (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-6: Hue

Drive over the famous Hai Van pass, stopping to take photos and soak up the gorgeous scenery before arriving in the imperial city of Hue. Enjoy a full day tour of the ruined walled city with your knowledgeable guide and pop in at the elaborate Khai Dinh Royal Tomb. Hue is famed for its delicious cuisine, so we recommend popping in at one of the many fabulous restaurants to sample some local fare.

Accommodation: Pilgrimage Village Boutique Resort & Spa (1 night)

  4. Days 6-8: Hanoi

Fly from Hue to the Hanoi, Vietnam’s characterful capital. You can stay right in the heart of the city next to the central Hoan Kiem lake, with the fascinating Old Quarter right at your fingertips. We recommend spending a day fully exploring the winding lanes and intriguing shops of this area, but we have also arranged a guided tour of key historic locations such as Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and the Temple of Literature where university students flock to pray and make offerings around the time of their exams. With your guide, discover local eateries and unfamiliar delicacies on an exciting food tour and catch a traditional water puppet performance.

    Accommodation: The Apricot (2 nights)

  5. Days 8-9: Halong Bay

No trip to Vietnam is complete without a visit to the world-famous Halong Bay. Rise early to drive or optionally take a thrilling sea plane ride to the coast, and embark on a one-night cruise, heading to the more far-flung areas of the bay less often visited by tour boats. Journey between the looming limestone karsts that erupt from the calm sea and explore local villages and fishing communities by bicycle or kayak. Cooking demonstrations, spa treatments and midnight squid fishing are all available on board, or alternatively just steal up to the top deck after a delicious supper to enjoy a spot of star gazing.

    Accommodation: Paradise Sails (1 night)
