Shanghai and eastern China’s subtropical climate brings with it four distinct seasons. The weather is generally mild and temperate, with a great deal of rainfall even in the drier months of the year. The frequent monsoon showers and scorching temperatures of June, July and August can make it uncomfortably humid, with the mercury regularly rising over 35°C. Winter is overcast and chilly, although snow seldom falls in this eastern region of China. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Shanghai and eastern China, with pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists.
Itinerary
Water Towns
Arriving into Shanghai, you will be picked up by our local representative where you will be driven for a tour of Fengjing old town before continuing into Wuzhen.
Known as the Venice of the East, we will explore the Xizha Scenic Area in the evening once the day tripper crowd has dissipated so that you can truly enjoy the quaint beauty of this ancient water town with relative peace.

Hangzhou
The next morning, you will be transferred into Hangzhou, the famed town which was highlighted by Marco Polo as the very best throughout his journey and had inspired countless poets. Hop onto a boat to sail around the West Lake into the Leifeng Pagoda. We will also visit the little-known Guo's Garden away from the usual crowd, before continuing into the China National Tea Museum, where you will learn about the long history and culture surrounding tea. In the evening, we have included a VIP seat to watch the Impression of West Lake, a series of outdoor performance with stunning visual effects and dazzling lights.
The next morning, you have an option to do one of the following three activities:
Option 1: Head into the remarkable Lingyin Temple before continuing into Longjing Green Tea Plantation and Meijiawu. Afterwards, stroll along the serene bamboo-lined path forest of Yunqi before concluding the day at Qinghefang Old Street.
Option 2: If this is your second visit to Hangzhou, we encourage you to venture off-the-beaten into the Ancient Shangxiang Pilgrim's Trail, which follows the little-known pathway through Maojiabu into three temples of Tianzhu before descending into Fayun Village.
Option 3: Visit the sacred Yuhuang Temple, the Octagonal Royal Farm Field before learning about the history of silk at China Silk Museum. Afterwards, continue to the City God Tower before concluding at the romantic Wansong Academy.
On your final day in Hangzhou, you will enjoy a boat ride to soak in the Three Causeways and Ten Sights of the Xixi National Wetland Park as you witness the villages lives along the various ponds, lakes and swamps.
