The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued travel advisories advising against all non-essential travel to Northern Italy. From 8 March, the Italian authorities extended the area of isolation to cover the whole of the Lombardy region and the provinces of Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Rimini (all in Emilia Romagna); Pesaro e Urbino (in Marche); Venezia and Padova (in Veneto); Asti and Alessandria (in Piemonte). The advice will be regularly reviewed and may be changed depending on how the fast-changing coronavirus situation evolves. Also see our travel information regarding Coronavirus.

Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The Mediterranean climate makes Tuscany a year round destination. It is important to remember that the main tourism season stretches from mid-April to the end of September with July and August being peak months. The best time to visit Tuscany is in the quieter part of the season, from April to June and from September to October when weather is usually good, prices lower and there are "fewer" tourists. Many have also discovered the advantages of visiting during the "low season" (late autumn and early spring) as the reduced number of tourists is visible.

This stunning boutique hotel located in the heart of the Tuscan countryside exudes charm and history. The lovingly converted 13th century villa, the centre of the property, offers guests a luxurious haven in which to relax and unwind.

Located in the heart of Tuscany, Borgo Santo Pietro is just 30-minutes from the centre of Siena and just over a 1-hour drive from Florence. This stunning 13th century villa estate was painstakingly and lovingly restored into a beautiful and luxurious boutique hotel.

I was really impressed by Borgo Santo Pietro: I thought it was a lovely property in a beautiful setting. The rooms are beautiful and the service top-notch.

The dcor was perfect I thought, in keeping with the rustic Tuscan style but not too traditional and old-fashioned looking. I would definitely recommend the new 'garden suites' - they are located just a few steps away from the main building and offer beautiful private gardens. Ideal for a laid-back alfresco breakfast, which the hotel is happy to bring to your garden at no additional charge should you prefer not to get dressed and amble over to the breakfast room in the main building.

Room amenities are beautifully presented and the bathrooms spacious and well-appointed.

All the staff I met at Borgo Santo Pietro, from the reception staff to the waiters and friendly sommelier, seemed very proud to be working at Borgo Pietro and offered exemplary service with a smile. The food was delicious and all, as you would expect, based on the freshest local produce whether you are dining at the fine dining restaurant or enjoying the more informal atmosphere of a laid back lunch by the pool.

With its extensive and beautifully maintained gardens and grounds, Borgo Santo Pietro is an idyllic country retreat.
