Pscov

Located 30-kilometres from the Estonian border, Pscov was founded in 903 becoming a major Russian trading hub during the Middle Ages. While the city’s wealth and strategic importance meant Pscov was subject to continuous attacks and sieges, many historic sites survived the warfare and highlights include the riverside kremlin (citadel) and the beautiful 12th century Trinity Cathedral.

Pscov is an interesting historic destination for those interested in Russian architecture and religion. The city is dotted with many picturesque and weathered churches, showcasing splendid Byzantine architecture, while the city-walls date back to the 13th century. Located at the confluence of the Pskova and Velikaya Rivers, this attractive city has a number of handsome parks, particularly Detsky Park (Children’s Park) with fairground and pony rides and it is also possible to visit the Pscov Monastery of the Caves, the oldest still-functioning monastery in Russia today.
