Luxury Honeymoons in Vietnam

Fascinating old meets new culture, fantastic cuisine breathtaking scenery and some incredible luxury beach properties make Vietnam a great luxury honeymoon destination.

Vietnam honeymoons

Newly-weds who love the prospect of hopping from street food markets to Michelin-star restaurants, tasting fresh ingredients and creative plates full of zesty flavours, will be in heaven on honeymoon in Vietnam. And that’s even before exploring the enchanting landscapes and rich history of the country.

Whether it’s walking the romantic, cobbled streets of Hoi An, filled with glowing lanterns and colonial architecture, cruising quietly on the glassy waters of Halong Bay, or discovering deserted soft sandy beaches on the south coast, each region in Vietnam has its charm.

Add in the exquisite hotels and you’ll understand why this country is such a perfect honeymoon destination. From impeccably designed boutique retreats to five-star resorts that blend into the landscape, there’s an abundance of choice for your first moments as a married couple. Quick internal flights and scenic train rides between the north and south of the country make it easy to include several stops in 10 days, or, if you have two weeks, you could even combine a honeymoon in Vietnam and Cambodia or Laos.

Luxury Vietnam Honeymoon Ideas

Vietnam may just be a thin, slither of a country but it packs a mighty punch when it comes to variety. Active couples will find enough to keep them busy with treks, cycling or water sports and those exhausted from wedmin can indulge in plenty of romantic beachy downtime. Here are some of the best things to do on honeymoon in Vietnam.

Evening Vespa Tour / Hanoi

Good for: Foodie couples

Starting in Hanoi’s atmospheric Old Quarter, scoot around the capital city on the back of a Vespa stopping at the best food stalls around. Your driver and guide will make sure you discover all the locals' favourite haunts and hidden gems. After an exhilarating and delicious evening, finish with a cocktail at the famous jazz club Opera House.

Vietage Scenic Train / Da Nang

Good for: Those with a love of slow travel, train journeys, nostalgia and new experiences

A beautiful way of seeing more of the country in a short space of time is via the Vietage Train from Da Nang to Quy Nhon. Hotel group Anantara has taken over a 12-seater carriage and decked it out in luxurious interiors, complete with a massage area. During the 6-hour journey, each traveller will receive a 20-minute head and shoulder massage. There’s also a bar in the middle of the carriage to enjoy a drink and mingle with other guests while the world passes by, and a three-course meal will be served at your seats.

Mekong Delta Cruise / Cai Be

Good for: Honeymooners who want to see a traditional side of Vietnam

Visit the floating markets and tour the narrow canals of Cai Be on the Mekong River by sampan boat. Stop to taste fresh fruits and watch small, family-run workshops making handicrafts. The tour ends with dinner at a local house, where you’ll enjoy a traditional home-cooked Vietnamese meal.

A O Show / Saigon

Good for: Theatre and culture lovers

Through a stunning mix of bamboo cirque, acrobatics, contemporary dance and theatrics, A O shows depict the contrast between peaceful countryside life and the busyness of modern, urban Vietnamese life. As well as being visually stunning, the production has a tongue-in-cheek energy that is captivating, and all performed in the centuries-old Saigon Opera House.

Trekking / Various Locations

Good for: Active newlyweds looking for a country-side escape

Sapa, Mau Chai and Ninh Binh are all amazing locations for trekking while on your honeymoon in Vietnam. Routes take you past little villages, off-the-beaten-track and through endlessly green paddy fields. To experience a different side of Vietnam, spend time in the mountain villages and see how the tribes live there.

Ancient Cham Dinner / Amanoi, Vinh Hy Bay

Good for: Spiritual couples and people looking for a unique and unusual experience

The beautiful Amanoi hotel offers a special dinner experience in the jungle with a Cham Master. Chams originate from the Champa Kingdom in Vietnam and are heavily influenced by Hindu culture, along with their own beliefs about the goddess Po Nagar known as the ‘Mother of the World’. As such, nature is a key part of their culture and is reflected in the dinner set under the stars, among the sights and sounds of nature. Along with a delicious meal, the Cham Master will hold a blessing ceremony for you, which is something truly unique and memorable.

Lan Ha Bay Cruise / Hai Phong

Good for: Honeymooners who want to connect with nature and see Vietnam’s stunning landscape.

Lan Ha Bay is right next door to the better-known Halong Bay but thanks to restrictions on the number of boats allowed in it, is more secluded and a quieter choice for those on honeymoon in Vietnam. Take a two-day cruise on Heritage Line’s boat Ylang, which is very luxurious and intimate, with only 10 suites on board. The longer trip allows you to get further away from crowds and discover private coves to explore and have picnics on. Onboard, there’s yoga, meditation and Tai Chi classes, plus a spa and jacuzzi to relax in.

Where to Stay

Vietnam’s hotels are effortlessly cool. Known for being beautifully designed, they are an ideal place to start married life. With a mix of five-star slick showstoppers and low-key boutique properties, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to booking your Vietnam honeymoon resorts.

Bai San Ho is a sanctuary for couples. Superlatively designed, every little detail has been carefully considered in the extremely cool villas, which are placed in different locations around the property. Slightly off the beaten track, this is a lovely beach hideout for honeymooners who want to wake up to the sound of the waves each morning. Zip around the hotel in golf buggies or on bicycles, going from the spa to a perfectly fresh seafood lunch on the beach. With no other hotels for 30 minutes around, there is a very remote, serene feel about this Vietnam honeymoon hotel.

Different-sized villas are dotted between the hillside, ocean and lake, merging into their surroundings. Some have private infinity pools and sprawling terraces, while the Wellness Villas come with a programme of spa treatments, meal plans and activities, plus a 15-metre private pool. There are several restaurants all set in spellbinding locations, and alfresco private dining can be arranged.

Six Senses Con Dao
Six Senses Con Dao

Inspired by a traditional fishing village, this Vietnam honeymoon hotel has 50 private pool villas and residences built from reclaimed teakwood and sustainable materials just a few steps away from an immaculate stretch of beach. A tiny archipelago off the southern coast of Vietnam, Con Dao is wedged between tropical coral reefs on one side and the jungly Con Dao National Park on the other. Here you can spend your days reconnecting with nature, soaking up local life, watching turtles hatch their eggs or on the turquoise water with the many water sports on offer.

Water Villa bathroom, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay
Six Senses Ninh Van Bay

Seemingly a remote island, but actually a secluded bay, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay is only accessible by boat, offering weary newlyweds an idyllic escape from reality. Villas with decks over the sea, excellent cuisine, butler service and the chance to dive, spa or simply laze around all contribute to this undeniably luxurious experience. There are endless water sports and trekking for those with restless legs, while castaway picnics, barbecues on the beach and movies under the stars will ignite the romance on your Vietnam honeymoon holiday.

The Best Time to Honeymoon in Vietnam

The climate in Vietnam changes as you travel from north to south. The best time to visit northern Vietnam is between February and April and between September and November to avoid the rain and the extreme heat. Central Vietnam is dry and mild from February to June, while its rainy season is from September to December. Southern Vietnam is very tropical with a rainy season from July to October and dry season from January to June. The optimum time to head to the south for your honeymoon in Vietnam is November to April.

So, if you want to combine multiple stops in the north and south of Vietnam, the best time to visit is between February and April.
