The Central-eastern regions of Henan, Shanxi and Shandong experience four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid, with the majority of the year’s rain falling between June and August. July is the hottest month of the year, with temperatures peaking at around 40°C. Winters are cold, dropping as low as -20°C in January. Spring is short and warm, but sandstorms from Mongolia often sweep through the region at this time of year. The best months to visit the Central-eastern regions are September through to November, whilst the days are long and sunny and temperatures average 17°C.
