The weather's pleasant on Easter Island year-round. The peak tourist season runs from January to March. Prices are highest and accommodations scarcest during this period, especially during the Tapati Rapa Nui festival. The rest of the year is less crowded and at times you'll have the whole island to yourself. July and August might be a bit chilly for some tastes but it's ideal for hiking.
Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa enjoys a privileged location on Chile's mythical Easter Island overlooking a stunning bay and the Pacific Ocean beyond. A superb base with excellent facilities and within walking distance of the main village of Hanga Roa.
Easter Island is one of the most mysterious destinations on Earth, well known for its iconic stone moai statues. It is also the most remote inhabited island in the world, located in the centre of the Pacific Ocean, or in Rapa Nui, Te Pito o Henua, translated as the "Navel of the World," or "Land's End."
Each detail of the hotel's architectural design and functionality is cutting edge. Inspired by the Orongo ceremonial village and site of the island's Bird Man ritual, all of the Hangaroa's walls are curvilinear and topped with grass roofs, and favour natural light and landscaping of local flora that allow the hotel to artfully blend into its natural environment.
The 75 guest rooms and suites at Hangaroa have been built with local natural materials such as cypress trunks, clay and volcanic rock. The decoration is minimalist and fuses rustic elements. All of the rooms have great views looking out towards the ocean and each room has its own terrace. The hotel uses solar panels and wind turbines to produce its electricity and there is a real emphasis on sustainability and respect for its spectacular surroundings.
The Hangaroa's 500-square-foot Kainga double rooms and 800-square-foot Ma'Unga suites are curvy, insular and organic, softly lit by LED lights and made of volcanic rock, clay and wood. Bathrooms feature wash basins carved from volcanic rock, circular mosaic-tiled showers, and hand-crafted freestanding soak tubs made of dark clay. Cool, relaxing, and sophisticated in design, guestrooms also boast state-of-the-art technology that saves on water and electricity consumption, minimizes noise, and features a bedside component that frees the room of electromagnetic fields for a pollution-free environment.
The hotel's lounge spaces, reading room and lobby are designed to resemble a traditional casa bote, a traditional Rapa Nui house that appears as an upside-down canoe. Luxurious and utterly stylish interiors designed by renown Chilean interior designer Paula Gutierrez feature custom-built furniture, Polynesian prints and fuchsia, sky blue, tangerine and emerald fabrics contrasted against stone and dark-earth clay walls and floors, and stately, polished cypress tree trunk pillars. Outside, a heated pool and expansive pebbled patio face out toward the sea.
69 Kainga Rooms measuring 484-527 sq ft, 5 Ma'unga Suites measuring 797-840 sq ft and one Hanga Roa Suite measuring 893 sq ft. All rooms and suites built using local natural materials such as cypress logs, clay and volcanic rock.
Children are welcome at the hotel, and babysitting can be arranged upon request, but there are no specific facilities or interconnecting rooms.
The Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa features 75 elegant and uniquely decorated rooms, the Poerava and Kaloa restaurants, the deluxe Manavai Spa, an outdoor swimming pool and its Vaikoa bar, a reading room and excursion centre and a 60-person auditorium featuring cultural and art films.
As part of the Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa's desire to give back to the local community, the hotel subcontracts the outstanding local tour company Mahintur, with 25 years' experience guiding guests on Easter Island. Mahintur's excursions are soulful experiences that put guests up close to the Rapa Nui culture and the people themselves, along with visiting highlights such as the Rano Raraku quarry, the visually stunning Ahu Tongariki with 15 standing moais, the breathtaking Rano Kau volcanic crater that measures 1.6km in diameter. Guests may opt also to unwind on the white sands of Anakena Beach, take a leisurely bike ride, explore town, or scuba dive in some of the most extraordinarily clear waters in the world with up to 50 metres of visibility.
Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa sits on a privileged spot with a panoramic view of the ocean, one km from the airport and within walking distance to Hangaroa town all of which allows you to easily explore the local community.
