The Winelands are a wonderful year-round destination and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in Franschhoek is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere. The best season visit is September to March when it is hot, sunny and dry. From April to August it cools down with some rain.

Le Quarter Francais is the perfect base from which to explore Franschhoek and The Winelands. A really fun hotel with quirky touches here and there it is ideal for couples or families alike and there are room options to suit everyone. The attic rooms in the family suites have been specially designed for kids with small versions of everything!
If you are staying at Le Quartier you must spend an evening at The Tasting Room to try the seven course food and wine paired menu, it is not to be missed!

This must be one of our favourite Franschhoek properties, hidden away from the hustle and bustle. Much like a secret garden, the rooms are arranged around a central lawn and swimming pool and profusions of roses and jasmine are everywhere, dotted with agapanthus. Its a glorious little haven and a huge favourite of ours and we could see why! The rooms are elegant and slightly formal, and for those guests wanting a more intimate setting, try one of the four suites in the neighbouring Four Quarters, around their own private swimming pool. For younger guests, try one of the Delicious Rooms named brilliantly, you can choose from Itsy Bitsy, Teeny Weeny or Bigger than a Bikini these are tiny little rooms offering very good value for money, but as the name suggests, they are very compact and possibly better suited to teenage children or single travellers.

Le Quartier Francais is perfectly positioned right in the heart of the action in central Franschhoek. On the high street itself, this fantastic boutique hotel is a great option for couples and families wanting to be on the pulse with the goings on in the gastro hot house that this Winelands town is. There are a range of accommodation types that are designed to suit all different visitors.
The Tasting Room has a reputation throughout the country, never mind just the Cape, for blowing people away with the experimental and humorous creations of award-winning Executive Chef Margot Janse. The tasting menu, is a voyage of discovery, youre asked if you have any allergies and that is that, the dishes arrive one after another, always accompanied by a tale. Some hark back to the chefs childhood growing up in South Africa: corn bread in a can...ill leave it to your imagination!! Perfect Impala filet, with a twist, youll have to visit to find out what shes coming up with next.
Best for food - A stylish hotel with a great reputation, Le Quartier Franais is in Franschhoek, a foodie haven in the heart of South Africa's Western Cape winelands. Accommodation comprises four suites overlooking a courtyard, two suites with private pools and 16 rooms built around a central pool. A small, two-bedroom cottage and a three-bedroom house are also available. Chef Margot Janse showcases her award-winning contemporary cuisine with an African-inspired Surprise menu in The Tasting Room.
X-factor 'It takes quite some panache to be regarded as the best restaurant in the acknowledged gourmet capital of South Africa,' says Gold List contributor Harriet O'Brien. 'But Margot Janse's dishes are at once innovative, theatrical and exquisite. This is the El Bulli of Africa.'

Located right in the centre of Franschhoek town, Le Quartier Francais is a real gem. The bedrooms are all designed with great care and are bright, colourful and sumptuous. I just wanted to wrap myself up in bed when I saw it, they looked so inviting! Linda, the manageress leaves thoughtful little touches in the room upon turndown which really makes your stay feel quite special. There is a good size pool flanked by the rooms which seemed to be very welcome when I was there.
The real emphasis at Le Quartier Francais is food. There are three restaurants from which to choose from. iCi, Bread and Wine or The Tasting Room. All three serve fantastic food! I ate in iCi and had the most delicious oysters with shallot vinegar - perfect! Bread and Wine is a little drive away and only serves lunch but on the menu is a delicious array of Mediterranean choices including charcuterie and home-made breads. They also offer very popular culinary courses for adults or children - who are very welcome by the way! The Tasting Room is perhaps their most well-known... it is a real dining experience. Linda wants the focus to be on the food and the food only so you can't book a table for more than eight people, or you'll be distracted from the delights that are coming out of the kitchen.
If it's raining, you'll be ferried off to the on-site private cinema for an afternoon of indulging in films and drinking wine...
I simply loved Le Quartier Francais, the balance was just right between great service but not at all stuffy. If you are looking for fantastic views, this probably isn't the best place for you as it's right in the centre of town, but that didn't seem to matter so much to me.
