Game viewing is excellent all year round. Summers (October to March) are hot and wet, were as winters (May to August) are cool and dry. Daytime temperatures in summer are high and may soar above 36°C/97°F. Winter is known to produce beautiful warm days, though the evenings and early mornings can be quite chilly.
Sarili is a family-friendly safari lodge that overlooks the Bushman's River in the Shamwari Private Game Reserve. This malaria-free Big Five reserve offers a varied safari experience and is perfect for families or small groups.
Shamwari Private Game Reserve's main focus is on conservation and it has been voted the World’s Leading Conservation Company and Game Reserve for five consecutive years. The game reserve boasts a huge amount of wildlife, including the Big 5 and five of South Africa's seven biomes. What makes Shamwari unique is not only the fantastic accommodation and great game viewing, but also the focus on conservation and animal rehabilitation, allowing guests unique encounters with the wildlife and the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of what Shamwari is doing to protect and increase the wildlife populations.
There are two Born Free Sanctuaries where you can visit the rescued cats and learn how these animals are exploited in captivity across the world. Shamwari also has the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre where animals are either in the process of being reintroduced into the wild or recovering from an injury.
Being so close to Port Elizabeth, Shamwari Game Reserve is easily accessible, with daily flights from Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town into Port Elizabeth. It is also in a great location for anyone travelling along the Garden Route.
Sarili Lodge is situated next to the Bushman's River and has spectacular views from every angle. There are three luxury river view Rooms and two luxury courtyard rooms, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a comfortable living area and a large swimming pool.

Three of the rooms have private balconies with river views and the other two have a private patio facing the courtyard. All of the rooms have international adapters, hairdryers and an electronic safe.
Children of all ages are welcome at Sarili Lodge and Shamwari offers a whole host of child friendly activities to keep children entertained indoors and outdoors. Babysitting facilities are also available.
Sarili Lodge has a shared living and dining area with a satellite television and a fireplace. This leads out onto a balcony with an outdoor dining area and spectacular views over the Bushman's River. There is a heated swimming pool with a shallow area for children.
Shamwari has a whole host of activities to suit all ages. Game drives are the main activity and a personal guide will be assigned to groups of 6 and 10 guests and the game ranger will organise a daily safari program to suit you. All of the guides are extremely knowledgeable and experienced and will happily answer any questions you may have.
In between game drives, guests can relax by the pool or enjoy a treatment at the spa. You can also visit one of the two Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary's or The Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.
