If you're visiting Sossusvlei, the best thing to do is avoid the summer, (Nov - Jan) which is extremely hot. Therefore, the best time to visit southern Namibia is in winter (May and September) but bear in mind that the desert regions can be bitterly cold at this time of year. The climate of the southern coast is hospitable from February to May, but quite cool and misty year-round, and particularly windy in August.

Sossus Dune Lodge is the only accommodation found inside the Naukluft National Park. Its location makes it ideal for visiting the famous Sossusvlei dunes and Sesriem Canyon without the need to queue at the park gate, meaning you'll be one of the first to arrive at the dunes. A highlight of staying at this lodge is climbing the dunes and reaching the top in time to see the spectacular sunrise over the stunning landscape.
There are 25 spacious chalets all interlinked by elevated wooden walkways with breath-taking views of the surrounding landscapes. The main communal area consists of a large decked terrace with a pool, bar, dining area and shaded lounge.
Throughout your stay at Sossus Dune Lodge you can enjoy guided Sossusvlei excursions as well as sundowner trips and nature drives. Other interesting excursions include guided walks at the Sesriem Canyon and Elim dune and you can enjoy some spectacular stargazing in the evenings.
The lodge offers 25 spacious chalets all interlinked by elevated wooden walkways, 13 to the left of the main area with views of the dunes and 12 chalets to the right with views of the mountains and the Sesriem Canyon.
Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge but must be under parental supervision at all times.
Sossus Dune Lodge has a restaurant and bar with picturesque panoramic views of the surrounding landscape providing an a la carte menu catering to all dietary needs. The lodge also has a sunset deck and swimming pool taking advantage of the great surrounding landscape.
Activities at Sossus Dune Lodge revolve around the exploration of the surrounding Namib-Naukluft National Park. This park is known for its fascinating Sossusvlei landscape and Sesriem Canyon in which professional guided excursions are available. Elim Dune, Dune 45, the petrified dunes and Deadvlei landscapes are also popular places to visit closely located to the lodge. The stunning scenery of the Namib's high red and orange sand dunes are one of the best sights in Southern Africa and also a must-see for professional and keen photographers.
One of the highlights, guided quad bike excursions through the fragile environs, is done with utmost care along specifically allocated pathways, so as to tread lightly on the dunes and preserve the unique and delicate habitats of this landscape.
Sossus Dune Lodge is the only lodge located within Namib-Naukluft Park and is approximately a five hour drive from Windhoek. To reach the lodge you will pass through Sesriem Gate into the Namib-Naukluft National Park and turn left towards Sesriem Canyon. The lodge is about 4km from the gate inside the National Park.
